I am new to this group. I am rebuilding a 1995 Explorer.
The gauges on the right side of the panel do not work.
The Tachometer seems to be sticky or has a bad ground. If you hit a bump or hit the top of the glare shield sometimes the tach will turn on for a while then off again. The Oil Temp and Fuel Gauge are also inop. Is there a bad ground wire on the left side? The right side gauges and speedometer work fine. This vehicle was not driven for the last three years. I know how gauges work and it seems there must be a common problem to all three although I would think there would be a common buss for both the right and left side.

Any chance that a critter could have got in and nibbled at the wiring? After three years I wouldn't doubt it ;)

You just may have to pull it out and see what you can find. Just unplugging and reconnecting the connectors may help.

I will check for partially eaten wires. Did not know if it was a circuit board for all the instruments in the cluster (right side and left). From what I see on-line it looks like it might be two halfs. Then it could be a critter attack. I hate cluster gauges. I will update

There is probably a cluster "plug" in the backside of the cluster. If it has been partially pulled out, it might cause the problems you're having. Be a good place to start, though, and you can spray some contact cleaner on the connector while you've got it out. That might be it, too! :) good luck with it, and definitely watch out for critters while you're in there!

Thanks for the tip! I will pull that plug and clean it.
