That seems like a lot of rpm's with a 3.50 and 35's........2500 to 2700 at 55 to 60?
I would think with a true 35's and 3.50 gears you would do around 2200 at 65. Just found out it has the same ratio gears as a c4 according to Advanced adapters chart which is 1 to 1 in 3rd.
Multiply the 33/30(16"stock tire) by the 3.73, and you should use at least a 4.10:1 gear. If you had 15's to start with, then 4.30:1 gears would more closely match your original gearing. If your tires weigh more than the originals, and they do, then go up at least one more ratio step. 4.10:1 gears are common in the 16" tire'd Explorers.
Depending on what fuel mileage you expect, versus the acceleration you want, choose 4.30's or 4.56's. Good luck,
To go along with what CDW wrote: My explorer came factory with 255/70/R16s. They are approximately 30" X 10" and it has 4.10 gears. My old ranger came with 215/75/R15s and had 3.73s. With 33s, these guys know what they are talking about..go higher numericallly (lower gears).
im not 100percent positive on the speeds because i have no speedo. thats just the flow of traffic, and id think that the flow of traffic would be around 55-60... yeah right who am i kidding?!?! i am certain though that they are 3.50s and 315/75/16s
hey man i guess i can help a bit .. i have your 33x12.5 KUMHO MTs with stock 3.73... they dont seem that bad but def will change in the future ive ran that way for the past 2 months no problems... but speedo problem is sovled by my simple little mathematical mind haha. for every 10 mph you go it goes up 1 mph so if your going 30 ...your going 33 if your going 70 your going 77 thats the way i calculate it. i found a site that helped me out with that and thats what the dealer said it would be if i dont speedo correct. anything else let me know i think that might help you a bit.
hey just wondering also.. with 33s which gears would be better on gas mileage... 4.10 or 4.56s? just think that might be a good thing to think about before a purchase ... id like to know my self...
