what would be the best rear and front gears for 31" tires? also planning on going up to 35s what would be good and not loose too much power? i have a 94 explorer xlt 6 cly 4.0 and what are my current gears?
thats a good question i have a 92 and i have 3.07 they suck with 31 s but im gonna do a sas and a soa and im gonna run 40s with 5.13 s awesome lol but you probably have somewhere between a 3.07 and 3.73 s most likely 3.73
you can check easily by marking a line on your tire and jacking up the whole diff and also marking the driveshafts and spinning the tire ONE revolution and counting how many times the driveshaft revolves
a gear set up that i would go with is 4.88 if your gonna do the 35s soon because you will only be running 3438 rpms at 60 and with the 35s you will only be running 3045 and thats with the high power but high revs just go here for a complete chart http://www.4wheelparts.com/aux_incl/gear_ratio.html
thanks this past weekend i installed a 3inch body lift and 31,1050x15 bfgoodrich all terrains and havent got it out yet i wonder how much slower acceleration it will have?
If you want to run 33's I would go with 4.10 gears. Best ratio to go with for the tire size, and you don't want to waste the money buying 3.73's for 31's then 4.10's right after for 33's. There is a chance you already have 3.73 gears, which is plenty enough to push those 31's for now.
If you NEED gears right now and see 33's in your near future, go with the 4.10 gearset.
