...when i got the project X the D-head cut all the harness's behind the head unit and she's a 01/91 model...speakers and aftermarket amp gone but speaker to amp wires spliced in...i've been tracing everything...here's where i am at:

1) i need to know what the Red, Blue and Yellow wires go to and each colors purpose...i believe the factory amp???

2) i've got a cut grey cable and i believe these are the speaker...anyone have a color chart on these???

...i believe this is all i need and i know we got some stereo wizards for the gen 1...i have traced and found all the power/light/acc wires and wrote them down as they don't match any sheets i have read so far...thanks in advance...:D

Red = power or key
yellow = constant
blue=power antana..if you have one;)

that's pretty much audio standard for any car there

...thanks guys but my truck is special, lol...i got it traced out and i mapped it except a couple wires which i will post later...;)

...i now have tunes after putting quite a few miles on her without any, she will do...i do see rewiring from stock to new amp and speakers in the future...i have read for a month or 2 with the open head unit hole and none of the colors would match up...only the door speaker colors matched at the door only...again thanks guys....:D

God... I feel like I'm hijacking threads right and left, but...

I have a 94 XLT w/ the same problem. Factory radio was gone and wires were cut at the harness. I checked out the 12volt.com link, but the diagram there only shows the correct wiring that actually plugs into the speakers.
The color coding on the wires coming from the harness in the dash are completely different.

So, the question is how do I wire up a head unit to the factory wires comin out of the dash - cant find a diagram that actually helps me anywhere.

Thanks Guys! Ya'll are awesome with the help!

that is standard for aftermarket stereos. coming from the factory, the colors are different with every model car.

...on my 91 the power wires were different...these are the factory wire colors on my x...;)

ground = blk
12v ignition= yellow/blk stripe
12v constant= green/yellow stripe
dash dimmer= blue/red stripe
and the blue goes to power the factory amp...

...mine is one of the first X's made so yours might be different being a 94....let's hear some feed back if this works or not...:popcorn:

I've got the power wiring. cd player turns on and plays, but the speaker harness is cut and the wiring from it is crazy (purple, green, orange, gray, white) this is where i'm stuck because the online diargram doesn't help.

...this might help, this is how mine wired and it was diff from the online one and may be diff from yours..:dunno:

speaker wires found in grey wire harness:

left frt = green and white w/orange stripe
rt frt= white w/red stripe and orange
rt rear = violet w/white stripe and lite blue
lft rear= lite blue w/dk blue stripe and yellow

...i just consolidated my info and put it at this link...:D

alright, gonna go try it today.

whether it works or not...thanks for helpin out.

...stevOn, did it work???

nope... didn't work for me. but it may for others.

what i ended up doing was i ran individual wires from my head unit and spliced them into each corresponding speaker under the floor panels to keep the wires hidden. (bypass the amp directly).

That way i can still use the factory plugs - makes it a little easier for me.

I'm having some issues getting my aftermarket deck to work in my 94 with premium system. I've installed a fair number of decks in the past and bought a wiring harness but didn't know at the time I had the premium sound system. Not wanting to hunt down the correct harness, I assumed if I chopped off the black plug, I'd find the standard ford colored speaker wires, but I was quite wrong, and now I'm stuck with no radio.

I have all the same colored wires as tbars4, but they don't seem to work for me. The best I can get is a small amount of sound from one speaker at a time, it's so low with the volume maxed you wouldn't hear it if the truck was running.

Does the shielding or the bare wire inside the large gray cable need to be attached to anything for the system to work properly?
I'm assuming that because I can get a little sound, the amp must be turning on, correct?

...the large grey cable holds the speaker wires...;)

I know the large gray cable holds the speaker wires. I already chopped the end off that and stripped the gray part back so I could access the individual speaker wires inside. Sometimes with cables like these, the shield and/or the bare wire inside need to be connected to something as well.

Also, you listed the colors, but do you know which ones are the positive and which are negative for each speaker?

Thanks

...i mainly worked off the link in post #2...sorry, the link in post #9 does not show that info...
