OK, I hope I've post to the right board. Likely there may be some info on this, but I thought I'd ask. Are these "Electronic Supercharger" deals purley "snake oil?" These kits on eBay are $200. They inlcude an intake (I know that alone can increase HP) but they also have some electric device they call "Electronic Super Charger" with the kit where you install a switch and need to compress it to engage this device. The eBay number is: 8041385259. Personally, I'd rather invest in a good intake/header/exhaust system to start, but with technology these days, I thought I'd ask. THanks

They are almost as good as the Tornado. ;)

Yup, thats what I thought. Any suggestions where to get good aftermarket stuff to begin mods? thanks

Oh, have a 92 v6 4.0, thx!
Try to learn to love your engine for what it is, is not alot that can be done with it, at least thats cost effective

How about any sort of modifications, body, suspension, ect? Any recommened sites?

Yeah, this one! ;) Start readin'. :p

get a 66mm throttle body, i love mine, and you can actually tell it did something

summitracing.com part #BBK-1580.. its $200... but the best $200 you can spend on the 4.0

Wesites? Vendors? thx

Search button, man!! :) First do intake (KKM filter www.kurtzkustomz.com) and exhaust (your choice, but tell your exhaust shop to go with a 2.5" pipe from the cat, to the tailpipe--any bigger is bad for the 4.0, any less is stock size).

Then get a 66mm throttle body. I got mine from summit racing www.summitracing.com

Get Jacobs, Taylor, Ford motorsport or some other quality spark plug wire.

Put in motorcraft plugs, gap them at stock .054"

Calibrate your TPS to 0.96v (search for that thread)

Then get an aftermarket MAF sensor, I have a Pro-M/Granitelli

Finally, get a CHIP. For our trucks today, I recommend BamaChips.

Do all of that and you'll have significantly more power, but keep in mind there is only so much you can get from bolt-ons on a normally-aspirated 4.0 OHV.

yea if you want to add real power, you gonna have to cough up around $2000

those superchargers wont fit your 4.0, they are for a 5.0 explorer, i checked the part#

Try Zex nitrous kit #82011. You can add up to 75hp and about as much torque safely with that kit on our trucks in stock form. It's not explorer specific but it will definitely work for our trucks. I've seen the complete kit on ebay for around 400 bucks.

that, plus some good headers (borla, BBK, JBA), a catback exhaust, and an intake will net you around 100hp/100tq for about 1000 dollars.

Less than a supercharger and you can easily turn off the nitrous to save gas and have normal drivability.

After talking with a local 4.0 performance enthusiast I'll most likely go NA for my power increase.

95TM fully assembled heads from a 95+ OHV X to raise the compression, which then requires new pushrods, and then a 410 cam.

It *can* be done for around 2500 Canadian, and once everthing is said and done approx 220hp is nice for this vehicle. Then later headers, MAF upgrade, larger TB...

It *can* be done for under 2k, and once everthing is said and done approx 220hp to the wheels is nice for this vehicle. Then later headers, MAF upgrade, larger TB...
Good luck, keep us posted

I had to adjust my post because I was bit off from memory. Its around 2500 for the parts, then I'll be doing the labour myself. Plus I thought it was 220 to the wheels but after re-reading my correspondence I can't verify that.

However 2 kids take priority and that is way low on my list.

I sure hope to do this, the guy who is helping me did come on this board, but he modified the 4.0 in a ranger - fast, fast lil truck.

The thing with the 95TM heads is you have to run premium fuel as they are fast burn headsa. I can get away with running 87 octane since I'm 3300+ above sea level.

The said ranger I mentioned ran low 14s all night here at the track.

You should check out my thread, im bascially doing the same things you are

except i plan on using 90TM heads with SOHC pistons, which give me the same compression as 95TM heads and 92 pistons. The 422 cam has bearly any gain over the 410, although im trying to squeek out as much RPM's as safely possible so the 422 suits me. These cams love the higher compression from what i understand.

you should really look into getting the heads and intake gasket matched and polished.

Yes i also hear this combo will result 14.9 seconds at the track (in a ranger)... naturally aspirated... Cant wait.

220, to the WHEELS? you plan on running nitrus?
