Hello Everyone,

I have a brand new 2015 Limited that I took delivery on last week. It has under 200 miles on it, and it started making a weird howling noise. I have attached a video of the sound which seems to occur at ~35MPH. Took it into the dealer and they have not been able to determine what the noise is. They are keeping it another day to continue the troubleshooting.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Is the sound coming from under the hood or around the transmission? If its under the hood it has to be the air intake. It could be loose or something is stuck in the air filter. Or it could be a valve of some type. Mention it to the dealer. If its coming from the transmission I would say check the drive shaft.

I second the drive shaft theory. It could be unbalanced and causing that noise at that frequency.

BTW, check your tire pressure.

According to your dash. Your parking brake is on!

That is the low tire pressure light. Yes, one tire was a couple of pounds low. Thx.

You guys were right on. Bad central bearing on rear drive shift. Entire assembly will need to be replaced. Parts on back order for a couple of weeks.

A couple of pounds?? Given that the TPMS is triggered when the pressure drops about 25%, that works out to about 9 pounds. ;)
Glad they were able to diagnose the bearing issue.

Peter

I kinda enjoyed the noise.
