Ok heres the deal... just got a 97' Explorer sport BLACK 4x4 5speed. . Its just really plain.... I am getting my stereo soon, and the next thing I want to do is the outside. I want to get some good looking rims, sort of sporty, like blackmagic has, but not dubs haha. I may do the warrior shackle and torsion twist, just to set it apart from everyone else a little... I want to keep the good gas milage in this car, so I dont want to go crazy like my other that got 10 mpg. anyways, I think I could move up to about 31 inch tires... without messing up my gas milage... I have 3:73 gears with a limited slip, keep in mind its a manual transmission. I dont want to put A LOT of money into the car, I should probably have it less than 2 years. My first thing is to get a roof rack, its bare up top. Help me out with the rims stuff, I have no idea where to look, im thinking some 17's maybe? Its gonna be sorta hard to get the look I want, I dont want ghetto lowered look, sorta sporty yet a little bigger. thanks.

Nothing looks more aggressive on an Explorer than 17 or 18" Cobra rims and dual exhaust.

how did you manage to get a ls and 3.73s in a 97 with a 5spd? Im 99% sure they all came with 3.27 gears.

well mine right now has 3:27's my 1992... thats why I made sure to check the axle code before I bought it.... its a really early made 97' if that matters... but I checked the axle code and its D4 which is 3:73 LS... and I know most of the 5 speeds are red or white... mine is black.

As best I recal they only put LS on the 3.73s and 4.10s. And I think the 4.10s are only availible to autos.

Yeah i have a 3.73LS in my '97 and i am Manual, and yes it is White

I sort of want to get different rims and thats what im looking for too help me out black magic... I really like stock limited rims, the 98 and ups... and i like sport trac rims and stuff

again, nothing looks more agressive or sporty on an Ex, than the Cobra rims, plus they are cheaper than most aftermarket rims. Get some duals, lowered on Cobra rims, and try to find a Cobra look hood they sell to fit the Explorers - can't remember who makes the hood - . You'll have one mean looking truck.

not too offend anyone but I can't stand cobra rims on a X anymore. Its been done way too many times and there are plenty of other affordable wheel companies out there. I say u do something original. You can start with not putting cobra wheels on your X and something better looking.

your right the Cobra rims are common but they are about the sportiest and aggressive rims on an Ex. If you don't mind the expensive cost, BBS makes some rims that would look really sweet on an Explorer, just damn expensive.

What are you looking for, sporty like the Cobras or flashy like 20" bling bling rims:D

He said he wants 31s! 31s on a 20 inch rim................

Oopps, forgot he wanted 31's, I got into that whole sporty mode;) 20's are definitley out of question.

cobras look sweet, and i have never seen an ex with cobras on it in person. they are common here, but out in the real world of soccer mom explorers, it'd be somthing to see.

Do a search on this board, you'll find a lot of people with Cobra rims on their Explorers that you can see pics of, they may be played out on an Explorer but thats b/c they look so damn aggressive on an Explorer especially a black one.

I really like the way black magic rims look, just not as big. How hard would it be for me to get a pair of newer limited rims? or sport trac rims... or even the eddie bauer rims that have 3 spokes I like those too.

You could easily get any of them from a dealer you'll probably be charged the price for after-market rims. Junkyards might have them but they may not be in the best condition. Try the buying/selling section of this forum or ebay, there might be some. For what your gonna pay for the Ford rims anyway you might as well just get 17" Cobra rims which are going to look a hell of a lot more sporty than Ford rims, plus their not expesive at all.

i couldnt have said it better myself. i have gotten to the point were i HATE my wheels, basically because there are 5000 of us here that have them. i guess im just **** that way. although, there is no one in my area that has even heard of such a thing, and i will say i have never seen another X on the road with Cobra's on it.
