Here's what I just did: Bought RFX8320 head unit and pair of FRC1257 2-way speakers from Crutchfield for $285 delivered. No, Rockford doesn't make the greatest head unit. But, it had what I wanted: simple controls, clean look, no flappy face or fancy graphics, 3 preamp outputs. It sounds exponentially better than the premium factory system, and now I can play CD's. I put the FRC1257's in the front. They are 5x7 speakers and fit right in. Eventually I'll replace the rear speakers, add a sub and amp the whole thing. What I have now works fine for me. The cost was decent, not the cheapest, but Crutchfield has great customer service. Within 1 hour of ordering online they emailed me and also called to advise I needed to file the opening for the head unit. I got everything I needed to do the install including complete instructions. I saved over $130 for merchandise alone over buying from a retail outlet up the street, plus the satisfaction of installing it myself. There's always something better and cheaper that someone else can get from somebody else. Buy what you want, when you want, from who you want. Ask yourself what you want, what you need, what your budget is and go for it. I vote for Rockford. If you are looking for validation for Sony you find it on this site, although my Sony TV works for me. It's not HDTV or 4000" wide or supermariostereo but Speedvision is on 24-7.

I just purchased a Sony Xplod cdx-ca750x cd player from Crutchfield and it was great. Don't bash sony, they make quality head units. I use to have a cdx-4000x, until it was stolen out of my car last week. They do make crappy speakers though. I have 5x7 Infinity Kappas and they are great. I think that Crutchfield is running them almost half off right now, because they are coming out with newer models. MB Quart makes quality speakers and Eclipse head units rock.

half off crutchfield is still high ... thats just how much crutchfield sucks

6x9??????

Thanx 4 all the advice guys, but did any of u have touble fitting them6x9's. i'm gonna go with the sony xplod head unit 4 sure, i've notice them dang 6x8's are a little hard 2 find

theres a lot of 6x8's, even crutchfield has a bunch them.

FINALLY

I got a headunit for my truck this weekend. it's sony not sure about what model it is but it sure was hard 2 get it hooked up. me and my bud spend all day sunday connecting it. anywayz, i got a question, the power's coming from my solenoid. is that bad?? broke my old solenoid and had 2 buy a new one.

the power should be comming from where ever it did for the factory hu.

we could'nt get the screen to turn on, but the cd player was working.

crutchfield sux

hi, i have been an audio freak for a while now,
i get the crutchfield catalog just for reference, they have all the good info on speakers amps etc., but dont buy off of them unless you have a little extra money. As for 6x8 speakers i just found the new audiobahn series to be really cool, although pricey. They are chrome and blue and they even include an external crossover, if you want REALLY good speakers buy these. For the budget minded-buy pioneer, they have the best bang for the buck that i know of, try to stay away from JBL and Sony X-junk. I have never heard or owned them, but i have heard nothing but good things about infiniti speakers. As for subs i have yet to own a set that i like perfectly, but i just got these 2 Profile 12" subs (cheap) and as soon as i get my 600watt amp ill see what they can do.

Anyways good luck with the system
here's a couple of good audio website stores

thanx all of y'all.

"davesexplorer" wants perfect subs----tell him to find some older model Orion HCCA-preferably 10's(which are actually 11's).The newer ones aren't as well built. You cant kill the old ones. The only other sub that I can say is perfect is JL W6.

why is everyone so hung up on pioneer and kenwood ?

I myself have an JVC 838 HU wich burned an hole in my pocket, luckely i bought it for like 370 bucks, i have had that HU now for 2 years.

I have build it into an Chevy S-10, Chevy Blazer , Toyota Camry and now it's in the explorer, and the thing has yet to skip once, i have rode 45 mph on rough rocky roads and it doesn't even give an bump. where i've had pioneers and i got sick of the skipping.

Of course you can get the nice looking one...but if you put alot of bass in the car , do you want the radio to look good or to play good without the skipping ?....

I'm going to buy an new one soon and i'm prolly gonna go with Eclipse , clarion or i might even go back and buy another JVC, they might not be the prettiest on the market but they are reliable...

If you don't want your HU to skip don't buy an Eclipse, they are notorious for skipping.
