Got a 13 year old toy, now what?

Hey everyone! I recently got a 91 explorer with only 56k miles on it, and I was thrilled. I've had it for about a month now and played in a few puddles, drove on a few access roads and gone through a small creek or two. Only problem is everythings stock, which is cool, but scary. Very worried about bottoming out, getting very stuck and so on. So my question, what did you guys do to start? I dont have much experiance working on cars but I do have my share of experiance working with tools. Thanks alot! cya all around!

Welcome to the site.. What type of look are you looking for the truck? Are you interested in making it an offroad rig or a street rig? There is a vast selection of aftermarket parts available for either type of look. You can do 4" suspension lift & run 33s or higher. It was my counsins explorer before I got it, he bought it in 91, got a company car and only used this to play around by his house in the catskills. So i know its only 56, his wife made him sell it

Oh yea, looking for off road but keeping it street legal and my main transportation. At school so I dont drive much, but I still need to get around.

Do a 2" suspension lift or a 2 or 3" body lift, and slap some nice 31's on there. It'll give you a nice moderate off road setup while keeping it a solid daily driver. After that, you can go any way you want with it. Exterior stuff, performance mods, more lift, anything. Later.

I was actualy looking at using the james duff 2" suspension lift, anyone have experiance with that lift?
