Man, I fought with those pictures for about a half hour yesterday! They will not pull up with the http in front of the address! Wierd! So just copy the address and paste it into your browser to see them.

As a side note, I noticed that explorers only have camber adjustment on the passenger side! The upper A-arm is different. And I found out why you need the spacers - when you lock the wheels all the way to the left, the inside lip of the rim touches the lower A-arm!

Anyway, the new tires take a lot of the 'balloon' feel out of the ride. It's very solid now. And I like uncovering the 4 wheel discs. Maybe I should paint my calipers bright yellow! :)

I agree with the larger tires/rims taking away from the "balloon" ride. I found the same to be true when I switched to my 18s.

I think geocities deleted your pics.... I couldn't access the pic.

Hey 65Matt, when you took off your roof racks, how did you take out thoes little pieces that it srews into, in the rails?

I just left those little pieces in there. I cant decide whether to keep them or not. It almost looks like a van without them.

Your truck looks sharp Matt.

Hey Matt,

Did you HAVE TO use the 7/32" spacer to avoid rubbing with the 275/55/17 tires or did you use them for just for a tougher look? I have a 2WD as well and I'm looking to get a set of 275/55/17 tires, but really want to avoid using spacers if I can.

Logan

Without the spacers, 2 things happen:
1. The top of the tire is less than 1/8" away from the upper ball joint
2. At full lock, the lower suspension arm will contact the inside lip of the rim.

You might try grinding on the arm, but the spacer is much easier.

matt i was checking out your site and was reading the story of how you acquired your explorer, how many miles does it have on it and how much did you pay for it? i bought my 1996 last year for 11k and after taxes and warranty it came out to 13k. its a v-6 with every option and 77k mi now

I bought it in 2000 with 83K for a little under $12,000. I bought it from a individual so there weren't any taxes & such.

good deal i found a 96 v-8 AWD w/o moonroof, and it was like 10,000, and 80k, i was kinda pissed, i paid 3k more with a few more miles and a moonroof
