I am putting a gps system in my truck and im having trouble finding a place to mount the gps antenna. Will it work good if I use double sided tape and attach it to my dash board.? If it will work on my dash will it be alright to put it on the drivers side of the dash or should I put it in the middle of the dash? The cord is pretty short and the gps brain is under my front seat so antenna placement is an issue. thanks for your help!

Mike

The dash board should be ok, put it as far forward as possible, it needs a clear veiw of the sky.
Depending on how your antenna connects to your GPS unit you can get replacement antennas with much longer wires. Mine goes under the Interior Molding and then out the Middle Window (I have a sport with Flip out Windows) and then attaches with a built in Magnet. Its been here for a Year and it Works Great. Being on the roof is the best possible place for a GPS Antenna. I got mine of Ebay for $20.00, Its made very well and is 100% Water Proof. I have sold countless Garmin Units and accessories through REI and it is very comparible to Garmin's $99.00 Antenna.
Post or send pictures of how your antenna connects and I can tell you if you can get a new one.

I attached mine on the outside, right in front of the windshield. If I were you I'd get an extension or a different antenna and mount it outside of the vehicle somewhere.

I have a Garmin Street Pilot 2020 and most of the time I simply use the built in antenna,

However, I do have the optional external antenna, It is magnetically mounted. I have it in front of the drivers side windshield cowl.

Al it looks like you scratched the hell out of your cowl with that thing man !

Mine is going on the base where the the rearview mirror meets the windshield (where the light sensor is). I have seen people epoxy them to the underside of the roof behind the overhead console.

i called the company who makes my gps system and they told me to mount it outside the truck but i dont think my antenna is magnetic so could i glue a magnet to it?

Should be able to but most antennas have a thin rubber or plastic cover over the magnet so it doesn't scratch the car finish.

What brand is it?

Your antenna should be magnetic if they tell you to mount it outside of the vehicle. See if it sticks.. If not you could stick a magnet on the bottom, then put some electrical tape or something similar over it to protect the paint.

my mistake yes it is magnetic i just stuck it on the roof and ran it in my rear window for now until i can get antenna with a longer cable.
