About a year ago, I purchased my '96 Explorer with 171,000 miles. Everyone thought I was nuts for buying a vehicle with such high mileage, however, the Chrysler Sebring I was driving at the time had only 55,000 miles and was loaded with problems. The Explorer had all maintenance records and something about the truck just felt right. It's got a few odds and ends that don't work right, the body is pretty banged up, but the engine runs smooth, trans shifts fine and the 4wd works flawlessly. It's now about to hit 186,000 and I fully plan on driving it until it cannot drive any more. I would like to buy a late '90s Mountaineer as an every day driver someday so I can use my current truck for whatever else and not worry about abusing it a bit. Also, I'd like to note that this is almost my 20th vehicle in 10 years and by far my absolute favorite. Unfortunately, what brought me to this site is searching google for explorer suspension problems, but I'm glad I found it.
