Grinding in Shifter

Pleeeease Help .... I have a 1993 Ranger 4x4 3.0L that I recently bought. It has a grinding noise in the shifter when driving, quits grinding when I press the clutch at a stop and clutch pedal is loose. So... I ordered a Centerforce Clutch and Hurst shifter from Summit also clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. When I dropped the tranny and took the clutch out, The clutch looks pretty new. Oooooh... The Centerforce Clutch doesnt fit, won't line up, I have to return it! My question is... What's causing the grinding noise? Should I replace the clutch anyways?

As for the clutch it is a personal choice, if it is look good. You can just leave it on there. Since you are going to replace it with performance clutch, just go with your liking! As for the grinding noise, check to make sure you have fluid in the transmission. It take "automatic transmission fluid" not gear oil.
 






Make sure you replace the throwout bearing when you do the clutch... Is the flywheel super smooth and flat? If you have the parts, and have the tranny out, might as well do the clutch. Take the flywheel in to get machined if it's not smooth...

Grinding could be coming from inside the tranny, so drop the fluid and have a look for metal etc...
