guys I need your help

What's up,

It's time for new front tires and I really wan't to lower my truck more in the front. I just purchased a brand new set of Dunlup grandtrek , 275/55/17 , these work very well for me except the pronlem is that When i slam my truck all the way in the front, the tires Rub inside the wheel wells with this size sidewall. would it effect my 4x4 if i were to say put a 275/45/17 or ect something with a 45 series sidewall ? I need your advice guys

shouldnt affect your 4x4, itll just make the ride rougher.

I can deal with the ride I'm gonna put a set of drop shocks in , ok excellent I'm gonna do this then, I was just worried that It would mess with my 4x4 because of the different tire sizes

whoa, you mean just have the 45s in the front? you really shouldn't do that with the control trac system. i don't know that much about the non v8 ones, but you guys have a system that shifts it into a sort of awd when its supposed to be in 2wd right? that could lead to problems, but you could solve that by splicing in that switch thing that people do so that you could have real 2wd. then you would just have to make sure that it was REALLY slippery before you actually used 4wd, like you couldn't just put it on 'cause it was wet or maybe icy or something, you would have to be on snow (it could only be used if you knew there was enough sliding going on that the rear tires could spin more than the front, since otherwise it would all bind up)

oh, expo50 is right - i misunderstood. i thought you were gonna put the 45 series tires all around. if you have different size tires up front than you have in the rear, you could run into some potential problems with the "4wd auto" system getting confused maybe.

i'm not sure which one he meant, i think he knows enough about trucks actually now that i actually read who posted it that he couldn't have meant what i answered for.

i'll leave it there just to help anyone else who reads it, if your just talking about smaller tires all around, then it is definitely not a problem. however, i've heard that you can't use 4 by with more than a 2 inch drop or so without 'causing way excessive wear

naa i ment 45 in the front and 55 in the rear, I read somewhere that it is ok as long as it is within 10 percent of each other can anyone vouch on this?

that much of a difference may be ok with just the automatic function of the control trac, maybe. you really shouldn't do that with the full on 4 wheel though. think about it, ten percent would be like have 40s on the front and 44s on the back! i know i've never seen anyone with that set-up

DONT DO IT!!! the 45's are way, WAY shorter than the 55's. it will at least twist out a u-joint.

glad you asked too, i would have hated to see the thread. "uhhh i think i wrecked my 4x by being stupid" lol. that is what we're here for though, i know i would have done a few things at least that dumb if it weren't for Jamest and a few others.

i still want to know how you plan on really dropping it alot with the 4wd anyways? i've seen one slammed on bags with awd, but the guy spent like 10 grand to make it work and redesigned everything. i think it will start to 'cause huge problems if you were to go much farther than 2. do you know something i don't? i'd be interested if you knew how to make this work?

I had a 5 inch drop for about 6 months, but I could not stand the scraping inside the front wheel wells. I had no problems at with my 4wd. The only thing i needed was an alignment with camber eccentrics to fix my negative camber, and I needed to give my drive shaft angle aligned also. I really can't say i had any problems with my 4wd.

interesting... thats good to hear though. not that i'm gonna drop mine any lower since as you say it would ride like a dumptruck! but i'm glad to hear that works.

Try getting 265/55's...the 265 is a bit thinner
