Brandywine State Park Camp Ground maybe? I'm not sure if it has a specific name. I just know it's a state park and it's East of Brandywine off Rt 17.

Well, i got off my lazy butt at work today and looked at it on a map. I don't think it's a state park, just a lake i believe. It is the closest camp site on the map to Rawley springs, so there ya go i guess. When the time gets closer and i have a better number of the people camping, i'll call reservations. Actually, i just thought of this, they might be closed that time of the year. I know a lot of camp grounds close in November. I'll see if i can call them somehow and find out.

Probably it's a State Camp Ground without "park" in it's name or surrounding. Sorry. As far as I'm informed, it's first come first serve; I don't think reservations are possible. It has a fair amount of lots Most lots are sized that you easily can fit 2 vehicles and 2-3 tents on it. If the lots are full, there is a big grassy area in the back. People going there regularly have told me that you always can find a place to park the Jeep and pitch a tent.

Cool. I wrote an email to the WV parks department asking them for a phone number for the camp ground, so maybe if i can get a number i can call and get some ideas of what we are looking at and what kind of a crowd they have at that time of the year assuming they are still open!

Good Luck! Most of the state camp grounds here in VA don't have their own numbers. Everything is done through the "park" department. There is a website for VA state parks somewhere that lists all the close VA parks in the area and all the rules and regulations.

Huh, i didn't think about that, i was just assuming that they did. I do know a few that have there own numbers, so i guess it may very state to state.

I hope those of you that are planning on camping have some cold weather gear cause the nights are probably going to be below 40 i'm guessing. My wife and i have been spending a little bit of our wedding money on some camping stuff and a couple of things that we have bought have been a nice big sleeping bag that sleeps 2 and a heater! Those things are expensive, but i'm anxious to see how they work. I've heard that they will just about run of the tent cause they get so warm.

I just bring an extension cord and electric blanket, in to the bed of my truck, sleep under the stars

you have the TTB front? If you do before you drop your money on a lift kit, what are you looking for in a lift, bigger tires, articulation? some kits keeps the "ground clearance" the same ( drop down brackets) the only lift you will be getting is from your tire size. These are the 2 companies I know of that re-angled the TTB to give you ground clearance at the front diff, I have 14" on my 33'S min and 16" max at the apex of the beams.

Well, i called up to the camp ground in Brandywine. They will be open, but they will have already started shutting down for the winter, half the sites, porta johns and no water! So that means, no hot showers. That really sucks. I was looking forward to staying there. Anyone else have any other ideas?

Weeeeellll, the alternative to showers is
I think Brandywine is the only campground in that region, but there are lot's of Motels (with hot showers )in Harrisonburg.

I do remember you. What I don't remember is who drove in and out the same day (like me) and who stayed overnight. And I agree with you on the campground being the cheaper solution.

BTW, I don't think I will be there for this run; with so many Explorers coming, I don't think you guys need a Jeep spoiling the picture

I heard that the "locals" camp all through out GWNF, just set up a site and party ...at least the under 21. THis year they might not be allowing that with the dry conditions.
