anyways bent the crossmember, and cracked the oilpan on my 96' explorer, and i replaced the crossmember... so today i finally took some more time 5mins max to crank some more on the the torsion bars, and reading about torsion twists on the explorer 4x4 site i only moved the front end about an inch and one fourth, i was wonderin if the actual torsion bars could be off an notch in the a arm from when i took the front end apart?

Give people a chance to see the thread before you repost... you didn't even wait 1.5 hours...
ya huh its been more than 12hours

Wait which crossmember is this? The front one that houses the rack and pinion or the one that supports the transmission?

did u completely crank the torsion bars, or only 2 inches, becasuse you are 2wd so you can go more than 2"

Of course its possible you messed up when you put the front end together after you smacked that curb??

what is your question? smacking a curb that hard could bend you control arms, your torsion bar, etc....
Its hard to figure out exactly what you are asking.
You said you cranked your torsion bars for 1.25" of lift, what does this have to do with the curb again??

i think hes trying to say that when he hit the curb somehow the torsion bar got bent inside the A arm or something, or something that is jammming it so he cant get the lift out of it

see your post is hard to decipher :)

cut the old one out and welded in an new one

good one!

did you back off the torsion bar bolts before you re-installed the torsion bars?

yes they torsion bars were completely disassembled

Well there are different torsion bars that came in Explorers (with different spring rates), so maybe you have one of the softer ones or something.

There is no way you can be off a notch on the T-bars. 1 notch too high and the thing would be damn near impossible to get the keeper in. 1 notch low and the bolts would have to be all the way in just to put the tires on the ground. I would say the tortion bars are fatigued and some new ones from ford would be the best bet. They are like 90$ a pair from there.
