Guys, I have a 97 converted 4WD (BW 4406) 5.0 explorer. I can't take my leaky exhaust manifold anymore (cracked manifold), so I was thinking of replacing them with a set of headers. However, I dont have the funds right now to buy the torque monsters, but I was looking on ebay, and came across these :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/91-9....c0.m245&_trkparms=72:543|65:12|39:1|240:1318

I realize they dont come with an EGR bung, but I am a proficient welder, and could weld one in. I can also modify these if need be, but am just wondering if anyone thinks these would have any kind of clearance issues the way they are.
Also, do you think there would be any interfearance with the explorer spark pluglocations, or any other problems? Thanks guys

Those will not fit. You have two options- either get the Torque Monsters, or find some FMS Explorer headers. You should be able to find a set of FMS headers for about $200.

Justin, thanks for the info! People dont seem too happy with the FMS headers from what I'm reading, but I just dont have the money now for the TM's,and I figure they have at least got to be better then a stock leaky manifold.
Would you be able to provide me with a link to the FMS's? I am searching, but am unable to find them

Could weld em up yourself custom for cheap

But that's a lot of work I sure as heck dont want to do.

TMH are all around the best by what I have read. I also know I am VERY happy with mine  One hell of a difference. 20 more HP is a nice kick in the pants :)

??? - Cheap? I put over $1200 into my custom headers that I welded up myself. An that was will low carbon steel primaries!

Could have done cheaper, but you would be at $300 + jet hot coating for even the most basic set by cutting up a stock cheap header set and adding some j-bends.

Unless you are going big HP, the TM are the best route. No other off the shelf 302 headers fit without major modifications.

even if you are going bigger HP, Robert will build you a set for more power too......

Oh - is he now building larger diameter versions of his original? Or - are you speaking of his full custom builds?

website has two headers avail based on power requirements last time i saw
Robert also does custom builds
