There is a blud color u can get for ur head lights that give the effect of a halogen right? because i want headlights that are like halogens but with out the costly price of a halogen conversion. Does ne one know what the name of the color is or bulb?
You're confusing halogen with HID (high intensity discharge)
All explorers come stock with halogens. An HID conversion kit will cost you about $300 per light. An inexpensive way to get the HID look is to install Xenon charged bulbs. Xenon bulbs are slightly more expensive than standard Halogens. Xenon bulbs are simply halogen bulbs filled with xenon gas instead of the standard argon gas. They produce a brighter, more white beam than standard halogens and have a blue tint to them. While xenon bulbs are an improvement over halogens, they don't produce the awesom light output of HID systems.
in my x i use MATRIX xeon bulbs they are 80watt low beam and 100watt high beam and are 100% street legal there are others out there but what i found is that apc and glow tech lights have a blue tint on the road where the MATRIX bulbs are plasma white on the road
I dont think you 85/100 bulbs are legal, you might want to check with the DMV, because here in washington the legal limit is 55/65. Before my HID's i rolled around with APC's 100/110
i do live in washington and the bulbs i use are dot approved and street legal and i wouldn't go to the dmv to find out i go to the state patrol there the ones you gotta worry about if something isn't legal
I hope I'll be safe when my HID bi-xenon projectors get added to my headlamps. I haven't heard of anybody being pulled over for something like that, and I know a guy with a true-HID kit in his Jeep. Had it for a little over a year with no problems.
I'm having a guy off HIDforum retrofit some in. I ordered some new stock housings that should be delivered to him any day now. Then he'll tell me what projectors I need. He said go with Hella or Philips though, which are OEM in the luxury cars. Since the stock housings are fluted he said the light output won't be as good so I asked him to cut out where the beam will shine through and put in Lexan plexiglass in place. I've seen some like that and think they look awesome.
