My headlights stopped working last night. I pulled the headlight switch and the parking lights came on, but no driving lights. Just by chance, I smacked my driver's side light and it came on but the passenger's side didn't when I hit it. The brights work fine on both sides, along with the turn signals and brake lights. Do I need new bulbs or is it something bigger than that?

How do I go about changing the bulbs? Is it just bulbs or a whole light case? As you can see, I haven't had to do this in an Explorer before...

Thanks!

Most likely I'd say it's your bulbs. However, you could have a broken/shorted wire behind your lights. The bulbs are easy to change. Just look behind the headlight under the hood and you'll see the wires and a twist knob that holds the bulbs in the headlight assembly. DO NOT touch the bulbs with your fingers or anything oily. They will blow out within days.

I had this same problem with my 92, turns out that it was a plug into the bulb problem, check to see if there is any heat damage to the plug, I got some off a taruas at the junk yard and replaced them, end of problem. Gary

It was the bulbs. Replaced them last night. Hope they last me awhile, cause that was a pain in the ass standing out there in freezing rain poppin those things in.
