I previously asked about adding 4th gen mirrors w/puddle lamps to my 02 xls and was told they would fit and the wiring is already there for the puddle lamps. Now that I am ready to order the mirrors I was wondering if there is already the wiring for heat. My understanding is that in 3rd gen explorers the stock heated mirrors turn on when you turn on the rear window defrost so there wouldn't be a need for a separate button or anything. If anyone knows if this will work please let me know. Thanks in advance.:)

I would think the defrost button would activate the heated mirrors also.

Hi,
I just bought heated mirrors with the puddle light recently. I have a 2002 Ford explorer XLS as well. I was wondering the same thing. If anyone out there is able to confirm if everything will work OK w/o adding anything extra please let me know. Also, will the heated mirrors work with the defrost button?

We had a 2004 model XLT and wondered this for years. I found a thread on this forum that members stated the heated mirrors are plug and play. I can confirm that they are. Ours had the puddle lamps from the factory orrginally, but I suspect that they will also work.

Hi everyone:

I have a 2002 Explorer that I swapped in 2004 Explorer mirrors from a wrecker that had heat and puddle lights. No modifications are needed and I can definitely confirm that once my mirrors are frosty and I push my rear defroster switch it also causes the mirrors to defrost the frost.

Thanks so much for the response and for the confirmation. Appreciate it. 👍😁
