Heated seats High setting only gets to 90F?

I’ve heard a few complaints about slow to heat up, but I haven’t heard much for weak temperature. Regarding temperature, I only run mine on high(3) until I start to feel the heat, then turn them off. They continue to warm up, but not overly hot and the vehicle starts to warm up shortly after. If I leave them on high, they get very uncomfortable. I think people will have different opinions on this matter.

I have a 2014 and the driver seat seems much weaker than the passenger seat as well. I am thinking about taking it back to the dealer while under warranty.

I have a 15 XLT and my heated seats get super hot on level 3. They also heat up very fast. Usually within 2 minutes, I'm feeling a good amount of heat. As soon as I start feeling the heat, I'll drop it down to level 1. If I keep it on level 3, they get to hot for my liking.

These heated seats get much hotter and heat up a lot faster than my 2012 Subaru Legacy or my wifes 2012 Acura MDX.

Maybe they changed the heating element or the way they are heated on the 2015 models. I have the seats that are leather with the Mica Suede in the middle.

I have a 15 XLT
Heated seats on XLT are different than on Limited due to the cooling mechanism and ventilated leather. XLT works fairly well, but slow to heat compared to German counterparts.

Maybe that explains why I feel mine are great. I have a 2014 sport with the heated/cooled seats.

I don't know how much faster a seat can be heated but my driver side seat gets hot as hell long before my engine heats up enough to start blowing hot air out of the vents. Once my heat starts working, I need to turn the seats off or I start sweating.

..seats and steering wheel are electric heat, the cars hvac wont make heat until engine warms up.

2013 manual barely mentions the word 'heat' in all the pages of heat/ac/temp control, but goes to extreme lengths to explain the ac/defrost, and still misses major points of the ac operation...

I think you missed the point of my post.

Or maybe you really thought I was stupid enough to not realize the steering wheel and seats were heated by an electrical element.

And then maybe thought I was the dumbest fool in the world who expected is vents to start blowing hot air while the engine was still ice cold.

...its ok dont let it all confuse you...

Two kinds of Heated Seats

I have a 2014 Sport with heated/cooled front seats. These seats are heated/cooled by a Thermoelectric cooling unit similar to the 12v electric chests you take camping. Thermoelectric cooling uses the Peltier effect to heat and cool the seat and requires forced air to deliver the hot/cold air to the seat. If you have this type seat you can probably hear a small fan running as soon as you turn it on and requires the seat surface be perforated. The pro's of this type unit is it can deliver hot or cool air from the same unit. The con is it takes longer to heat up.

The other type seat heater is an electric strip heater that works similar to an electric blanket/hot pad. I had a 2008 Explorer with this type seat. The strip heater will heat up faster and get hotter and does not require perforated seats. On my Explorer the temp. was controlled by a thermostatic switch that would turn the heat element off at a set high temp and when it cooled enough it would turn it back on. I could feel a distinct temp change when it cycled. If Ford still makes a seat that is "just" heated thay may still use this system.

Mine (XLT) cooks me starting at the very center of my behind (yep, right there). I can not stand to have it on high for more than a few minutes before reducing it to II or I.

I do not have the perforated seats as mine are the ones with the leather one the sides and the suede in the middle. I'd imagine they use exactly what you described. Some type of heating pad. I don't think it cycles anymore though however I haven't kept it set to level 3 longer than 5 minutes since it gets to hot for my liking.

...My heated seats up front are very weak - even at full (level 3)...

Our '14 Limited heated seats are weak IMHO...

I never realized how weak the Explorer heated seats were...

Hi folks,

If you're concerned that your heated seats aren't keeping you as warm and toasty as they should, then I'd recommend making an appointment at your dealership for diagnosis. Need help after your visit? Just let me know and I'll see what I can do to assist.

My first 2014 Ex XLT (wrecked) had very weak seats...hot wasn't nearly hot enough. Even compared to an 07 Focus, it just couldn't get me warm.

Newer 2014 Ex XLT has great seats that heat up fast. Can't stand "HI" for more than a few minutes. It's strange that it varies so much from car to car. It also probably doesn't help that people's tolerance for heat varies greatly, too.

Either way - this is the definition of a first world problem! :D

I have these 'heated' seats in my Vette. They REALLY strap you in, and only one setting...! :D

Anyone out there have a problem with the 2014 Ford Explorer Sport and the fan running in the seats? Obviously it only goes off when the seats are turned on "heat" but the fan in the seat is really loud and not normal!?!? My previous vehicle was a Ford Edge and had heated seats and this never happened.

Also while on my Ford rant..... how about the power windows... anyone have any issues with it? Mine shimmy really bad and the dealership can't figure it out.

I can get your concern looked into, trooper44. PM your VIN, full name, odometer reading, phone number, and preferred dealer info; I'll loop in your regional customer service manager. Also, I suggest booking an appointment with your dealer at your earliest convenience.

If my car had been outside for a few hours while shopping etc., getting back in I turn the seats on for maybe five minutes max. Then I have to go to one light cause it's too hot, then off when cabin temp is up..

Just on the local news the other day, a 2004 Jeep seat started to catch fire from the heating element, They showed a Toonie sized hole in the seat. They mentioned 1500 seats fires this year (all brands).

i wish the ex had a heated steering wheel....i know i'm gonna miss that option from my previous maxima....

One of the mail reasons I like my Nissans, or should I say it's why my wife likes it. Turning on the heated steering wheel is really nice in cold weather, and is a great option. I don't have that in my Ford.
