Im thinking about buying an 01 eddie bauer explorer (8 cyl) and would like to hear the pro's and con's about this model.

Also, I would like to know if there is a decent aftermarket for this model? Im not looking to make a 13 sec explorer by any means but would like to do little things like cold air, computer, exhaust and so on.
I've done a little research and would really like to be referred to a website or sites that specializes in selling Explorer mods as I have not been able to find any.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome and I would say, depending on mileage of course, that a V8 01 X would be an excellent model! The V8s are incredibly reliable and the drivetrain doesn't have any bombshells waiting to explode...unlike the SOHC (ohh, I'm still bitter about mine...sorry). The V8s are great and they have incredible aftermarket potential. Some things to watch out for: 1.) Blend door issues- does the heater/AC work or does it just blow out one temp?, 2.) exhaust manifolds I have heard tend to be more prone for failure - a ticking would be diagnostic for that, 3.) color- Red Eddies are just beautiful...only color to buy! :p::D
Seriously, these guys on this forum are great and will be able to tell you in alot more detail how to mod your V8. How much are they asking and what is the mileage? Interior condition?
Regards,
Greg

wow thanks for the quick reply.
It is red and i agree red is the only way to go.
it has 101,000 miles and asking price is $7000
When i test drove it I didnt hear any ticking and the engine bay is clean enough to eat off of. No leaks at all and the ground was clean where it was parked. (I know its been in that spot without moving for atleast a week)
Interior is excellent, only flaw is a small crack in the vinyl on the center console.

Thanks for the heads up on the A/C, I will check on that.

It drives really nice, I was very impressed with the throttle response and power for such a heavy vehicle. The All Wheel Drive is nice and felt very solid while driving.

I agree with everything RedEB said. It sounds like a great truck. As far as Explorer mods go try www.explorerexpress.com

I like this guy already! :D
It sounds like you found a good one, 101K miles is nothing on those 5.0's! Hope it all works out, definitely keep us updated!

$7000 sounds steep to me.

2001 v8 explorer for $7000 is pretty expensive.

you could probably offer around 5500-6000 for it.

Thanks for the replies and all the help everyone, sadly I have bad news however.

I went in to the dealer and tried to get him to come off the 7k mark by offering $6000, he asked for a day to think about it (small dealership) and then sold it the next morning to someone else for 6500..
So back to square 1, except this time i've decided that im going to supercharge whatever 2nd gen I do end up with and hope to eventually get a high 13 low 14 second1/4 time

So question is, If you were starting all over and trying to reach my goals, which model would you get? and what would you stay away from?
Only requirements I have is no V-6 and must be a 2nd gen.
