2015 Explorer Limited
Hello Explorer community.
My wife and I just bought a used 2015 Limited. We've had it for almost 3 weeks and love it so far. There are a couple of minor issue we are working with the dealer on and I wanted to get a sense of how common these are. I'll make a post in the proper forum but here are the problems.
1. Cowl rattle. The other day we took our first multi-hour/highway speed trip in it and on the way home we developed a rattle that seemed to be coming from the base of the windshield passenger side. My wife put her hands on everything up there and the rattle never went away. She started looking on the internet and found it's probably the cowl under the windshield wipers. We had to stop for gas so I shoved some paper towels (like someone on the internet suggested) under the cowl. That seemed to take care of the noise. My concern is will the dealer fix this correctly. I found this here:
Whistle or Buzzing noise from Cowl
I've printed a copy and will take it with me to the dealer this week.

2. When driving it and speeds above 35mph all the way to about 70mph there is a low frequency humming and a small vibration I can feel through the steering wheel and pedals. The frequency (sound) goes up and down in the very low frequency levels (sorry I'm an engineer and it's the only way I know how to explain it). We took it to the dealer a week ago and they said that is the way Fords with a PTU operate. It just doesn't seem right to me. I've combed the internet for this but haven't really found anything on it yet. If this is common I'd suspect everyone would feel this. Please let me know if you do and if this is indeed normal. We are taking it in this Wednesday for the Cowl issue and want to be armed with some information on this issue as well. I'm going to insist we take a test drive of any used 2015 they have on the lot to see if it does it and if they don't have a 2015 then a 2016 should do. THe carfax did say there was a PTU oil leak at one time that was fixed. Could out PTU be going south?

Thanks and I hope to learn from all of you and hopefully help in some fashion in the future.

Welcome.
