Hello from wales uk. I have just bought a ford ranger xlt thunder 06 with the 2.5td 12 valve.
already found some useful info. thanks for letting me join.
The vehicle came with only one key, a mazda type blank and only one remote two button fob. Visteon make fob.
MY local dealer wanted £275.00 for a spare key. And £180 for a spare fob.
I have bought a new fob of ebay for £30 and programmed it myself in just two minutes using mazda programming instructions. The dealer wanted £57, one hours labour just to programme the fob.
If a moderator thinks the instructions will be of use let me know and I will post them. They are for mazda but I understand that is basically the rebaged ranger. DO not know if they will work on your american trucks.

remote programming

I have the visteon two button remote. the vehicle an 06 ford ranger xlt thunder (basically a mazda) does not have the remote key pad. The instructions for programming the remote on this site did NOT Work. the instructions I obtained elsewhere worked immediately.They are the instructions from the mazda site and are:
1. OPEN DRIVERS DOOR and LEAVE OPEN
2. LOCK and UNLOCK DOOR USING DOOR BUTTON STILL LEAVING DOR OPEN
3. INSERT KEY IN IGNITION
4. TURN KEY TO ON AND OFF THREE TIMES WITHIN 10 SECONDS LEAVE IN OFF POSITION
5. CLOSE AND OPEN DRIVERS DFOOR THREE TIMES, LEAVING OPEN
6. ECU WILL RESPOND BY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING DOORS ONCE
7. PRESS ANY BUTTON ON REMOTE 1 TWICE ECU REPSONDS BY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING DOORS
8. REPEAT STEP SEVEN FOR UP TO THREE REMOTES IN TOTAL.
9. REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION ECU WILL RESPOND BY CYCLING DOOR LOCKS THREE OR FOUR TIMES.
10. THE ORIGINAL REMOTE MUST BE USED AT STEP SEVEN.
The procedure most definitely works for my ford ranger thunder xlt 06 model.
It will not work for 07 OR LATER AS FORD/MAZDA changed the ECU programming after March 06. when in the UK they introduced the TDCi 143 bhp engine. Mine is the 06 TD (not common rail)
