Hi y'all, I fairly new here and learning my way around. I have a 2002 Explorer ST. A few months ago someone tried to either eject or install a CD in the player (factory 6 CD in dash player) and jammed two CD's in the same slot which caused an error message. I took the unit out of the dash and pulled the remaining CD's out with a forceps but when I re-installed it it still showed the error message and would not accept any CD's.

A few days ago I was cruising around looking at different posts on so many good topics. I happened upon this one thread that discussed a very similar problem like I have and then proceeded to explain a troubleshooting procedure that sounded as though it might solve the problem of the error message I have on the LCD display. I made a note of the thread but did not write the date or much else about it thinking I could find it in a few days. Well I have looked in 2-3 different places and cannot find this post. Can someone who is more skilled than I tell me where this post might be? I would appreciate this help very much. I really don't want to give up and go to the dealer's repair guy quite yet.

If anyone knows of this troubleshooting procedure please relate to me where it is so I can print it off and try the procedure.

Thanks,

Alan

Froader,

Thanks for your reply. That may have been the one but if my memory serves the thread I remember reading either had subsequent posts or maybe links to a procedure for troubleshooting that went through several steps and either looked for a readout on the LCD of the radio or a value on a DVM. I think the procedure took about 30 mintues. I hope I'm not dreaming.

Thanks for your reply again. I plan to study this thread again for some in my situation. I am thinking if I can clear the error message the CD player may work. I would hate to pay $80-100 for some simple fix simply because I don't know where to look.

Froader,

That's it! Thank you so much. It goes through a test procedure and hopefully it will clear my problem. If it doesn't it will be a learning experience. Boy am I glad I found this site.

Three more questions for you regarding rough idle, if you don't mind. Would a dirty Mass Air Flow sensor cause the 4.0L motor to stumble and shake on start up? Is this the cause of rough idle from cold start as well as warm start? Would I use that non-residue electrical cleaner spray to clean the unit and then re-install it? I have had this symptom for over a year but it seems intermittent and was not certain where it comes from until I read it might be the MAF.

Thanks again,

Alan

Great, glad I could help with that.

A dirty MAF could cause your problems. Also (I learned this from my explorer) check for any leaks between the MAF and the intake that air may be getting into (which was my problem). This will cause the A/F mixture to be off compared to what the MAF is telling the computer. That spray will work fine if it is the problem.

Also the Idler Air Control valve (IAC) could cause your symptoms. I would more than likely guess it is the MAF or an air leak betweein the MAF and the intake.

Maybe someone else will chime in if there is something else it could be.

Good luck!
