I'm getting power to the fuel pump relay, but no power to the inertia switch. Help anyone

Make sure you have 12v out of the relay with the key on. There is nothing between the relay and the inertia switch except for a connector at the firewall.

I have changed out the relay, still same problem. There is a green and yellow wire coming out from the relay that goes to the inertia swith. I'm not getting any power to that wire.

What is the coil of the relay? I dont hear it click.

Thanks for the diagram. Is there any way I can get another copy of the diagram I'm having a hard time reading it. Its not that clear

There is some sort of cutoff pictured in the above daigram in that line labeled "fuel system anti theft". That might be what is breaking the connection.

It is labeled Fuel System/Anti Theft because that fuse (#3) supplies both. But there isn't a cutoff on that wire.

Here is a better version. This is from the 97 manual, so it could be slightly different, but it should be very close.

thanks for the diagram. Do you think the 2000 ford ranger has a purge flow sensor

I have checked all the fuses under the hood and also all the ones in the cab. What next?

Yes, the purge flow sensor is part of the OBD II system, so it will definitely have one. If you want to get the 2000 schematics, you can either look on Ebay for "Ford Ranger Repair Manual" for a CD or you can try to download an ISO image of the same.

Would the purge sensor cause me to lose power to the fuel pump

Only if it was shorted out so that the output of the PCM Power Relay was shorted to ground. With the Key On, you should check to see if you have 12V coming from the PCM Power Relay. If so, then look for 12V at the output of the Fuel Pump Relay.

thanks for your help i will try these things and let you know what i find out.

anyone else have any suggestions

You mentioned that there is no power by the inertia switch. Did you see if there is power in the relay's socket? I'm not referring to the area where the coil goes, just the area where the power comes into the socket. If there is no power in that socket, try to jump 12 volts directly to the wire going to the inertia switch, and listen for the fuel pump starting.

I can run a hot wire to the #5 socket on the relay and the pump will start pumping fuel. What does this mean? Is the fuel pump and inertia switch suppose to get 12v of power?
