I know a guy who has 3-4 2nd generation Explorers sitting around- I have talked to him quite a bit, I think I can get some parts (mostly interior/misc motor) pretty reasonably.

I need to make a list of things that are commonly needed:

I know a few things:

Drivers side door master switch
5.0 Maf and Housing
Radio Bezels

What else?

This is no promise, I don't know for sure what he will and won't sell- just compiling a list.

If you could come up with an arm rest that looks like this, it would be appreciated. Dealer wants too dang much new. It's from my sister's 99 Explorer.

Thanks

I feel like the center console lid leather cracks often. Might wanna grab those lids if you can. I have to get a new one for mine, but I think I'm getting one of those sweet italian leather ones someone on here is selling. Just a thought.

Also, personally, if you can score me the ford emblems, 1 or two, that would be great. I'm also looking for the grille insert that the guy painted blue in this thread:

Think it's only on Sports, though.

That link doesn't work but i think i know what you're talking about...the plastic diamond shaped mesh behind the plastic grill? I've got one on my 4 door xlt, it matches the body molding and was factory.

Also, grab handles would be a great thing to get off a junk/wrecked explorer, i bought a few that have yet to be installed.

popular eBay items that usually sell for pretty good loot...

Homelink visors (as mentioned above)
center console armrests or lids (as mentioned above)
cargo covers
cruise control buttons

Yea I don't know what happened to the link, but that's the thing trj, thanks.

...i see people looking for decent shackles, head and taillights, window/door buttons, and window motors...:dunno:

...(psst, you might want to change "complie" to "compile")...;)

jason, what do you need more emblems for now?? lol. And clusters go for quite a pretty penny on ebay :)

Those were $20 new from Ford when I bought mine, a lot of trouble for a used part. The new part comes with all of the clips as well. Regards,

You might want to look into the headlight switch assembly as well as the rear wiper and 4x4 switch assemblies. I'm saying this only because these switch assemblies as well as a few others on the radio bezel, etc. feature that stupid little LED with the rubber cover over it that will burn out if you look at it wrong. I took out my radio the other day and the light on my rear wiper knob was working before I took everything apart then when I put it all back together it wasn't. My headlight switch light is out as well. These switch assemblies aren't cheap from the dealer, and in order to replace that bulb you need to buy the whole assembly.

I know that it isn't that hard to wire up a replacement LED from Radioshack to replace the burnt out one, but it's just an unnecessary chore that shouldn't have to be done in the first place. Just something to think about when those little bulbs decide to go on you.

I'll throw another idea at you also- I've gone through a few of the cubbies that sit in the center console- the two pieces that just pull out- the message center blanks and the cupholder pieces. I've gone through so many because I'm always finding new places for wiring and mounting other things which requires drilling and cutting with a dremel, etc. After a while of cutting these pieces up so much it can begin to look dumpy and that's where the new cubbie pieces come in. In the past I've had an external speaker sitting in there, cb radio bracket, switch panel and other things. That's a lot of holes. Just something to think about if you do anything like that.

One of 'em didn't turn out well. :(

Thanks, Don!

i might end up back at the junkyard on tuesday. If Evan can't get them for you i'll pick up like half a dozen.

Andy, you rock. Grab them for me anyway, if they're like $5 each.

I am looking for the same thing Paraphoe is looking for the plastic mesh behind the grill so if you can find a second one i am in need!!
Thanks
Chad

grab the rear quarter glass. apparently thats the most expensive glass to break out of an explorer. i just broke mine yesterday and replaced it today. i was prepared to pay 300 or more at safelite auto glass, but then i found the glass i needed on craigslist for 25 bucks.. anyway, sorry for rambling, but the glass is worth cash..
