this involves the 00m12 TSB. having to do with the lower intake gaskets and camshaft chain tensioner

in it they state
"During this period, should either of these components require replacement, your FOrd or Lincol Mercury dealer is authorized to replace both at the same time at no charge to you."

I had this done in may when i first got the 97, however i was reading post the other night and i noticed this statement, and i looked at my reciept and it appears they only did the intake gaskets.

Are they supposed to do both? is that what the statement is saying? I believe so, but don't want to make a fool of myself. just need to understand it fully
thanks
ryan

hmm it sounds to me like it is phrased so u only have to go in once...like the gasket goes and they MUST replace BOTH durring the time ur car is in for the other repain at no cost to u...so yes if one fails they are suposed to replace both

least thats what im getting from reading that

To me, it reads that they are authorized to do both, and then charge Ford back for the T&M. It doesn't mean that they have to do both.

see it all depends on how you interpert it..very confusing statement

I don't think it's confusing at all. They state that if either component fails, Ford will reimburse the dealer for both components if the dealer opts to put both components in. It doesn't say the dealer is required to replace both, it just says they are allowed to replace both. That leaves it at the dealer discretion.
