Hi , I am fairly new to the forum and this is my first post , but I have searched the forum and haven't found a solution to my problem so here it is . For a while now my wifes 95 Explorer has been acting up to the point that if she drives it to a couple places after she tries to start it up its a no go . The problems started a few months ago when she would start it up in the morning when the engine was cold and it would have a rough idle but it still stayed running . After thirty seconds or sometimes a little longer it would smooth out and run fine . This did not happen all of the time sometimes it would start and run fine . Lately though it has gotten worse , and if you drive it and stop somewhere the come out and try to start it up it won't run or runs so rough that it will not gain any rpm's even with your foot burried to the floorboards :( . I have checked for codes , all pass on both KOEO and, KOER , No codes.......
Heres the list of parts replaced , fuel pump , fuel filter , coil pack , DPFE sensor , TPS . Parts that I checked for propper function , EGR valve , IAC valve , MAF sensor . I have a set of gaskets for the intake manifold on their way and will install them to see if this fixes the problem . If anyone knows what else I can try I would surely appreciate the help .

I was going to suggest the intake manifold... You could try spurts of carb cleaner around the intake seam to see if it runs differently to pinpoint your leak.

When my battery was starting to go, I had similar starting problems. Have your battery checked at Sears or an Auto Parts store. You can also use a multi-meter to check voltage at the alternator.

The battery checks out , charging system also checks out . I tried starting fluid around the intake manifold no change , but I am still going to change the intake gaskets out . She has 130,000 + miles so better safe than sorry . A mechanic friend suggested a clogged catalytic converter so I will check that out too . I will post back if I find out any news good or bad .

Just an update , I checked the catalytic convertor out to see if it was plugged and it wasn't . I am going to try a new fuel pump because the pressure doesn't seem to be enough according to the specs taht are listed in the repair manuals . I'll post back after the fuel pump change .

go to u pull it and snatch all of the parts it recomended to replace. really cheap at car parts lots. make sure to try TPS, and MAF

Thanks fordgreen , I allready changed the TPS and checked the MAF for propper opperation everything stayed the same . I am trying some other testing on the injectors to see if they are faulting out when they heat up . I will post back with the results ...

For any problems that seem to start or go away when engine heats up, you should always verify that the ECTS (engine coolant temp sensor) is OK. We have two temp sensors - one talks to the computer and the other to the gauge.

Thanks I am checking everything that I can , including the coolant temp sensor . I am trying to get to it this weekend so hopefully I will have good news for the next post .

......and also check the IACV. If there is a little buildup on the tip, that could cause those problems. Have you checked the TB yet? Look at the butterfly valves inside the TB to see if they have buildup, and also, did you try cleaning the MAF? This sounds like it started slowly and is getting worse slowly. So it could just be crap blocking parts up. Oh, and ALSO (:)), reset the ECU, and see if that changes anything.
Cheers

Well I changed the fuel pump this weekend and I am getting pressure numbers that are in the range stated in the repair manual . This is both with vacuum connected and disconnected , and it seems to have fixed the problem . I thank all who posted for their help and I will post back if this was indeed the fix . Thanks to everyone .
