Are you sure it's not a draggy starter?

If it's truly misfiring, then the cause might be the sparkplugs, wires, or possibly the coilpack. Start with the plug wires and make sure thay are all securely plugged in, both at the coil pack and the plug ends.

Ok ill check out the coilpack and plugwires tomorrow i was also wondering about the starter do u think a starter from a 97 4.0 ohv would fit my 2001 4.0 sohc ? I have my old 97 about to junk it but left it laying around for parts i no the starter is good on it

^ Ditto. Note 1-2-3-5-6-4 for coil.

Has the battery been tested, ALL connections checked, and scanned for stored trouble codes?

I have not scanned for codes but i will try to take it to autozone tomorrow even though i have no engine light on they always tell me they cant scan without engine light on ill give it a shot anyways but i did test the battery with load tester and came out to good

Ok so finally changed the starter from my other explorer problem solved thanks for your help now i need to calmly track down my low jumpy idle on park

Low jumpy idle at park on a SOHC is either your IAC or intake gaskets, mine had the same issues and it was the gaskets.

That could be either the air going past, or a vacuum leak, does your truck run better when warm?
