Ok so I finally got my custom built a4ld in and my truck wont go into 4low. What is the deal? It goes right into 4high, but I push the 4low button and nothing. Could it be the sensor that senses if I am in neutral? If so, where is the sensor? I also thought about a fuse, but all the ones in the box under the hood are fine. Could it be one under the dash? Could it be the shift motor? where is that motor? The 4x4 relay clicks back in the quarter panel, but the 4low relay makes no noise. We did accidentally ground out the starter for just a second (like morons) could this have done it? I am worried that I will be in a situation where I need 4low and not have it.

All your help is appreciated.

4-low is a function of the transfer case, not the transmission. Sounds like the gears are not lining up properly though... there are others that know about it than I do.

Thanks. Isn't there a "Doctor somebody" on here who understands these things:confused:

Was 4Lo working before the tranny change?? If yes, it's probably just something that is not connected right. I think there was someone with this exact problem a little while ago, and the fix was simple. Tranny shop forgot to reconnect something. Can't remember the specifics tho. Try running some searches and see if you come across it.

What was the "custom" part of the new A4LD??

Thanks, but of course I did a search first;)

The A4ld has a heavy duty torque converter, 3.06 first gear, valve body work, and a stage three shift kit. All for $475.

I tried looking too.... reference must be buried in a post somewhere. All I remember was it was a very simple fix. Does it appear all the plugs are connected to the T/F case?

thanks tom. theyre all connected

Does 4-HI work?

Might be the shift motor in the t-case. it can be cleaned

OK fellas. Both trannys have 5 metal prongs and one plastic in the center. Any more Ideas before I tear into the shift motor? If it was a shift motor then I would expect it to click just not shift. Also it quit right out of no where when the tranny came out it worked, when it went back in it didnt. Thanks

First you must remember if your trucks 4 low was working before the trans swap.
The transmission has to be in neutral in order for the transfer case to shift into 4low. The switch on the left side of the transfer case with 5 metal prongs is the the neutral safety/reverse switch. It could be that you neutral safety switch is defective. I quick test is to first make sure you have reverse lights. Then try and start you truck in any gear other than park and neutral. It shouldn't start at all. Then try and start your truck in neutral. It should start in neutral. If it doesn't, then you probably have a bad neutral switch. If you have your old trans then you could try and swap the switch out. Good luck..

Great Idea. I will check tomarro! Thanks

OK guys the switch button in the dash works ok. We put it in my dads ex and it worked. Next we tested the relay box thingy in the lr kick panel- turned out ok. Now what? I guess the shift motor needs to be cleaned? I am afraid to take it apart-- Any Ideas? please? Help?

Oh and the neutral sensor is ok because it starts ok in neutral and reverse lights work!

FIXED!!!

After checking the switches and the relays, I decided to replace the sensor, it was the sensor! Thanksw for all the help, whoever told me to check it first, thanks, I checked it, but apparently I am a moron!!
Thanks again, it became urgent because we recieved a couple of feet on the level of snow at my house and I was hurting in high!!
