My friend and I discovered a slight issue with my 97 Explorer when we opened the hood today.

It's been running kinda choppy lately...and while we haven't ruled out changing a few items like the MAF sensor, etc...an issue with oil came about. When we opened up the air filter to have a look at it was dripping with oil. Further inspection of the intake showed some oil in there too. We had never seen anything like this before and needless to say are somewhat stumped.

What things could cause this? Could it have been over-filled the last time? Could something else that is causing the engine to labor create a situation where it's sucking oil through the breather?

You guys are always the bomb here and any help you can offer is of course tremendously appreciated.

thanks!!!!!

Would u mind describing "blow by" in more detail? I picked up the stuff to clean my filter today (K&N) but don't want to take the time to do that before we get things fixed.

thanks

Ditto on the blow bye that was my problem.
