Stock deck on a 94 XLT. I have the din tools. They slide in the holes. The radio will not pull out. The tools pull before the radio does. I tried for an hour to get it to come out. No luck. Is there a screw or something holding it in? Does the dash trim panel have to be removed?

Thanks

Jason, under the radio bezel you will find 2 screws with a hex head nut I beleive. Those 2 must come out first to remove the factory radio. Undo those 2 and then try again with the pull outs and let us know if that did it or not.

you push the tools in until you hear/feel a 'click' then push the handles of the tools OUTWARD [do not pull on them until they are pressed outward as far as they will easily go] and then pull the radio out. by pushing the tips of the tools against the radio, it will compress the mechanism and allow you to slide it out. on my 92, i found that the radio was actually WIDER than the opening on the dash bezel. so, you may also need to remove the trim surrounding the radio (pull out the ash tray, unscrew the 2 screws holding it in, then just pop the trim off and unplug the 4x4 connector to remove it - it helps to put the parking brake on, and with the car OFF put it into 1st gear[if its an automatic]) my bro has a 94, his car didnt have this problem, but i am just throwing it out there

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried all that more then once. The din tools just wouldn't work. Finally it came out. After another hour :( I had to break the stock radio front panel to get it out.

I thought I'd create this pic to show people how the tool to remove the radio works. I would have liked to see something similar when I first did mine. You press it in until it clicks, then when you pry it to the side it compresses the little tab enough so that the radio will slide out.

My problem was the tools weren't making the spring move in enough the clear the dash trim. Maybe it was the POS ones Crutchfield sent me. Good pic though.
