Okay guys, I replaced the IAC valve, ensioner pulley, spark plugs and wires, and air filter within the past week to no avail. When I'm idling my 95 XLT sounds and feels as if it's going to conk out. It almost sounds as if the car isn't getting enough fuel every 5-10 seconds or so. I've heard that the fuel filter is built to last forever, is this true? I don't have any problems cranking the vehicle at all-it turns over right away. Could this have something to do with my 02 sensor or some other sensor up front perhaps? Any help that you all can provide would be extremely appreciated. I don't want to break down on the side of the road, help!

they say the fuel filter last forever but i dont believe it. they are cheap and easy to change. have you checked for a vacuum leak. that will also cause a ruff idle.

vaccuum leak check

What's the best way to check for a leak? Do I need any special equipment?

Also, when changing the fuel filter, how do I release the pressure in the gas tank to prevent it from spraying all over me when I open the filter? Also, when I remove the filter do I have to plug the line with something to prevent all of the fuel from running out?

Thanks!

Jay

for fuel presure just take your gas cap off. your still gonna have fuel coming out thought. just make sure you point the line away from you. for a vacuum leak check all the line for cracks and wear. one way i check vacuum leaks and this is only cause i smoke, is by running my cigarett around all the lines and intake. if theres a leak it will blow the smoke away.

you dont have to plug the line. just the gas in the line will come out. just put the line in a container to catch the gas when it cames out.

Have you tried running a can of Sea Foam through the motor?

Sea Foam?

Never heard of Sea Foam..What are it's applications?

seafoam is good stuff. we sell it at work. advance auto. its $5 well worth it. you can put it in the gas tank and oil.
