Help the moron PLEASE

You should disconnect the harness, plug it into the HU, pop the hood, fuse the yellow wire, touch yellow to + on battery and - to a ground point. See if it works that way.

Nope nothing ^^ after trying this

On some HU's you need to push the power button on the first power up after a battery disconnection. Maybe try this too. Did you also disconnect the noise filter when you tried to power it up? I assume the fuse is good? Check the harness, are all the prongs fully seated and non-moveable when shaking a wire? It's kind of odd for an HU to just die, especially without blowing a fuse.

Alright tried the first thing nothing, disconnected the noise filter and went straight from the yellow wire and nothing, fuse is good as well, checked harness all wires are secure in prong  Is it normal as well for my gauges to stop working when the head unit went out?

No. Not normal. Maybe your dimmer died? Hm. Maybe the dimmer wire on your HU grounded out or something.. I'm not sure. Just an idea.

In moron terms for me what does that mean? Yeah it was weird when the head unit starting going out i'm guessing if that is the problem the gauges would come on when it would work for a short period then turn off when the unit would go out again

In your HU harness there's a dimmer wire that connects to a wire on your headlight switch. When your headlights go on this dims the HU display.

i had a head unit awhile back i was installing that would'nt work either, so my buddy did the following. My buddy hooked the negative straight to neg on the battery and connected the remote and 12 to the pos side of the battery. He kept scaping the (sparking) the 12 on the battery and after about 2 mins of this it finally worked. Not sure what that does, but he said sometimes it resets the head unit. Worked for him maybe it can work for you.

Thanx will try that when I get home, really don't feel like buying a new head unit, so will try just about anything now ;)

Head Unit Shuts off Gauges

Alright got a new head unit but now have the following problems:

Has anyone expierenced a problem like this with an aftermarket head unit? When my pioneer headunit opens to release the cd my gagues stop working until it closes again and plays the cd then they magically come back on, is this faulty wiring or what, this can't be normal, piece of ****. Also my attena don't work any more and my sub quit working  Anybody in MO know anything about this stuff that would like to help me ??? I reward very handsomely in Beer

interesting....In the first car i ever had the guages would sporadically stop working, turned out the circuit board for the guage was bad. I would double check that the wiring is right with the cd player. Did you cut any of the wires origionally on the explorer when you installed the cd player? Make sure your antenna is plugged in to the back of the cd player, alot of times things are so tight in cars that it gets pulled out while trying to put the cd player back in. For the sub, is the amp getting power? If yes make sure you are getting power out of the amp and that the rca's are connected from the cd player to the amp. If you have power out of the amp make sure you have the right wires hooked up to the sub also (but it should still play even if you have them reversed) if you get nothing from the sub then its bad. If the amp has no power, i'd double check the remote wiring (blue) running from the cd player to the amp.

Ditch the remote turn on switch for the amp for now and see if it starts working again. If so, all of the problems can be traced back to the head unit. The outercasing is grounded in most instances, it sounds like you have a short somewhere in the power circuit that is grounding out against the HU case, or possibly an amperage overdraw when the headunit is open. Is it possible that the motor for the faceplate stays active while open causing more current draw while open?

At any rate, since the problem is your wiring, I'd be happy to buy the other pioneer headunit since it is probably fine! :D

Yeah the old one was fried, took it up to bestbuy and bench tested it and wouldn't even turn on  my stero buddy hooked up my new one yesterday and nothing but problems again, I wish I knew more about this sh$t, tried following some of the suggestions above but I look at all the wires and its like trying to defuse a damn bomb, my buddy has a cluster f%ck of wires going every which way and is probably why i'm having problems with my gauges, oh well
