I have just purchased my first explorer 97 4wd 4.0 v6 after much searching. In the Uk we only have the 4wd v6 auto version. The transmission o/d light keeps flashing albeit intermitently. The diagnostic machine has shown error code P0742...TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID - PERFORMANCE OR STUCK OFF...
Please guys how do I go about fixing this? Do I need to remove the auto box :( Or can the solenoid be replaced with the auto box being removed? Or is it just a simple wiring reply. PLEASE HELP. Thank you

The Torque Convertor solenoid can be accessed by removing the pan and then unhooking a wire connector to the solenoid and undoing a bracket. The solenoid can then be pulled out and a new one installed.

You can extract the necessary info and see pictures in the 5R55E Valve Body Rebuild Diary in the sticky threads at the top of this forum.

Many many thanks for that Glacier...if you do visit the UK..a crate of beer awaits. Thanks

Careful, for a "crate" (Gawd I am soo sorry the colonies dropped the "U" from neighbor, color, flavor and so many other words, and lost the colloquial phrases you do so well) of fine English beer I may just be inclined to visit while I can!

Bonnet for hood...

Box for tranny, etc....

(sigh)

Would Tony Blair run for King ? <g>
