Hello, can anybody please help.
I have a 96 Ford Explorer (4X4, 4.0). On a trip the Overdrive and speedometer went out at the same time. According to the trouble code (p0500), the vehicle speed sensor needed replacing. I pulled it from the TC and found that the plastic gear had been eaten away and the spindle barely turned. Installed a new one which worked for about a half a mile and then went back to the same problem. Could there be something else that may be causing the VSS to short out? Any help is deeply appreciated.
Thanks,
Al
