98 explorer VSS location?

I do have the volume /speed control thing and rear seat controls. My old radio is gone so I can't plug it back in. When I installed my radio I got 1 harness with 1 connector. My factory radio has 3 seperate connectors. I don't know if that is the problem? All my fuses are fine. If it has something to do with the radio connectors does anyone know how to bypass it so it works?

Hold on a second... if the speed control wire is unplugged from teh stereo it's not going to cause the whole thing to not work.

What I'd be looking at is that adapter you got.... Examine it closely to see what it does with that wire. It's possible that the speedo signal is being grounded, preventing the rest of the system from seeing it... of course, I would suspect another issue there.... I wouldn't think it could cause the issue, but I don't know what the ABS system outputs that signal as (variable voltage or variable current).

I'd be looking at the fuse I mentioned above first. If the other stuff still works, I doubt it's the sensor.

I recently installed a 2006 F-150 radio in my '98 Explorer. My factory unit didn't have the speed/volume feature, but this new one does. A few days after I installed the '06 radio, my ABS light came on when I pulled into a parking lot. The weather has been sloppy here for the last couple of weeks, so I figured the sensor was dirty or maybe had ice froze on it or something. The next morning, everything was fine... no illuminated ABS light. Then, a couple days later, I sprayed the Explorer off and as always, I sprayed under to get any road grime off and when I got back in it to leave, the ABS light was on again. Two or three hours later, its off again. A few more days go by and the weather gets sloppy again... light comes back on... then goes off.

I bought a new ABS/VSS sensor today for $11, but I figured I would see what kind of info I could find on this problem on the forum first and this thread caught my eye.

I wonder if the radio has anything to do with it? I haven't used the speed/volume control. It seems like that would be TOO much of a coincidence for it to be radio related... especially after spraying it off and the light coming back on. I figure its only $11, so I might as well put the new sensor in to see if that solves the problem.

The Explorer is for sale at the moment and the last thing I want is for the buyer to see the ABS light... I'd rather fix it and not mention it.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention something. It came on today and I just happened to be about a mile from NAPA, so I thats where I got my sensor. I went across the street to the grocery store and when I came back out, the light went off again. I'd rather the light be on whenever I install the new sensor... just to see if that cures the problem. Oh well.
