I recently installed a 2006 F-150 radio in my '98 Explorer. My factory unit didn't have the speed/volume feature, but this new one does. A few days after I installed the '06 radio, my ABS light came on when I pulled into a parking lot. The weather has been sloppy here for the last couple of weeks, so I figured the sensor was dirty or maybe had ice froze on it or something. The next morning, everything was fine... no illuminated ABS light. Then, a couple days later, I sprayed the Explorer off and as always, I sprayed under to get any road grime off and when I got back in it to leave, the ABS light was on again. Two or three hours later, its off again. A few more days go by and the weather gets sloppy again... light comes back on... then goes off.
I bought a new ABS/VSS sensor today for $11, but I figured I would see what kind of info I could find on this problem on the forum first and this thread caught my eye.
I wonder if the radio has anything to do with it? I haven't used the speed/volume control. It seems like that would be TOO much of a coincidence for it to be radio related... especially after spraying it off and the light coming back on. I figure its only $11, so I might as well put the new sensor in to see if that solves the problem.
The Explorer is for sale at the moment and the last thing I want is for the buyer to see the ABS light... I'd rather fix it and not mention it.
EDIT:
I forgot to mention something. It came on today and I just happened to be about a mile from NAPA, so I thats where I got my sensor. I went across the street to the grocery store and when I came back out, the light went off again. I'd rather the light be on whenever I install the new sensor... just to see if that cures the problem. Oh well.
