I am having trouble with my door locks. Though this may seem like a small issue, in the event of an accident, i do not wish to worry if i can get my children out of the vechile if need be. Does anyone know how i can get ford to classify this as a recall? I have spoken with 11 other explorer owners in my town alone who have the exact problem with theirs. Any guidence would be greatly appreciated.:us:

what exactally is the problem ?

Your odds of getting Ford to help out are quite slim indeed.

If the doors are locked, they can't be opened with a key. The rear hatch is the only one that can be opened with the key. Once inside, you have to maneuver the door handle and pull up on the door lock for a while to get the doors to open. Using the unlock button does no good. Several others i have spoken with have the same problem, that's why i feel that this may be a defect.

sounds like dry mechnism.
A good coat of Zep-45 or WD 40 should make life better.

if that doesnt work you might wanna pull the panels and check the lock arms that run to the door lock linkage. I've never heard of this problem, but the problem originates somewhere. Usually the mechs that move the parts.

Post back if the wd-40 doesn't work

i kinda had the same problem. i guy i know, had the same thing happen to him. the latch locked up and you could get the door open. he told me that the door bushings where shot, and over time put to much stress on the latch, then it failed. sure enough, the pins and bushings in my door are the same. so after 3 hours of pulling both front seats, center console, and door panel for a door that would not open (did i also mention about 17 swear words), and $110 for a new latch it opened. now i'm waiting till its warmer to to the pins

Had the same problem on both of my first gen's. My '92 was decomissioned for parts for the '93. When I got it there was a patch on both rear doors where the previous owner cut the doors open from the outside and fixed them haha.

don't you have a button that you can push on the front 2 doors to unlock and lock the doors from the inside or is that just the uk?
