Hello all,

I want to put 285/75R16 on my explorer 02 xlt. I know I need a body lift and spacers. I will be going with truxxx suspension. I am not sure how to go about it on their website since it lists explorers as 06 and beyond. Can anyone help me with this? Can anyone also help me how to do the body lift and if I need to do anything else in the explorer??

If you go back one page, look at the top for a "Sticky" related to what you are asking. There is a thread to do a body lift and another to install the spacers for the struts.

See the top posts in the modified 2002-2005 forum for info. Everything you need to know is there

Btw, once you learn how to navigate the forum, it's amazing how much info is here. I've been on for 2 years and a member for almost a year and I'm still finding new places on the forum.

Also as a heads up, the truxxx kit does need to be modified for the 2002-2005 explorer. The bolt holes in the rear have to be enlarged slightly to matched up with the factory strut mount, and the front spacers have to be cut apart and welded together so that they are both lined up with eachother rather than opposite. If you dont do that, you will have to rotate the strut 180 degrees and it will not fit on our models. Thankfully my friend is a welder and had no problem modifying my front spacers but if not for him I would not have been able to get it done.

If you cant do the welding and dont know someone who can, I would get BTF instead.

BTF recommends that i purchase their uppercontrol arm as well as the spacers. Do i really need it? $800 shipped. I really wasn't planning on spending that just for spacers.

If you plan on using front spacers greater than 2", then it's almost a must. Without the BTF control arms and their uni-ball joints, your ball joints are going to be pushed to their max range 24/7, and that means premature wear and eventual failure (in the driveway, down the street, on the highway with young ones in the back...who knows).

I'm doing a spacer lift now with 2.25" fronts and even though stock arms fit, the knuckle touches the coils, so I need BTF arms for both the safety factor and correcting the suspension geometry.

I can tell you that after thinking I didnt need them at first, I consider it a must now. Safety is pricey but worthwhile.

All of this good info is lying around in the stickies. I recommend reading up on the 'BTF spacer lift install discussion' thread. Everything I needed was in those pages.

I have truxxx spacers in the front with quickstruts also in my 2005 with no modification needing to be done to the truxx spacers. I never put the backs in but I heard the holes have to be enlarged. 38.25" center of front fender 35" center of back fender on 265's. It seems like 285's would fit without the body lift but gotta do something about gearing first

I believe the consensus is that 285s will only fit well with a body lift and spacer lift in combination. Remember the issue with 285s fitting is not necessarily their height but width.

There is a sticky listing tires size combinations.

Keep in mind that rim offset also plays a big factor. Too high offset with 285s and youll run the risk of rubbing the frame at full lock or the knuckle. Too low offset and you'll be trimming more off the front bumper cover

I have 285/75/16 with only a 3" bodylift on my 02'. I am running stock wheels and the tires only come in contact with front fenderliner under full lock.
