need help with lift kit info

Shackles are easier than an add-a-leaf. All you have to do is pull out the old ones and put in the new ones. Most likely, with an AAL, you'll end up needing to cut off the spring center pin and then you've got to pull the bottom leaf off to put on the new one. More time consuming but still not really that difficult.

You seriously need to read up on the SAS. If you're having to ask these questions, you aren't ready to do one. As I said before, an SAS is completely custom. You'd need to pull everything off your frame on the front (entire suspension, steering, etc) add a steering box, coil spring buckets/radius arm mounts/trac bar mount (or spring hangers if you went with leaf springs), build a custom steering, figure out all of your angles, etc etc etc. It's a huge task.

Do you really think 1,000 dollars is an alright deal for a 3" body lift??!?!!? A 3" body lift is only about 150 bucks! 1k installed is a friggin rip off. If you think that's a good deal, get the superlift or trailmaster lift, install that yourself/with someone's help, and you'd be much happier with that.

What BMX said about the SAS. I wasn't all that mechanically inclinded a few year ago either, but after countless hours of reading, talking to people, and jsut thinking i'm tackling my SAS. Honestly, and i'm not being a dick right now, but your not ready to do a sas. Finding someone who has done them before and will help is a great resource.

Your BEST bet though right now, is a tt and body lift, neither one requires a ton of know-how. There are hundreds of threads on this site describing the process. Do yourself a favor, wait two or three weeks and just read, you'll be surprised how simple the process is. Now actually implementing that process can require abit of muscle and patience but you can do it!

Seriously SAS should not even be brought up in this thread

how hard would it be for me to do an sas bymyself ...

Can you weld? Can you fabricate? Are you prepared for your truck to be down for a long period of time while you take a torch to the front end? Are you ready to give up many of your nice street behaviors?

Seriously you don't want to do an SAS. Not saying its not for anybody, I did it. Just saying its not what you are looking for in a daily driver.

The only thing your going to easily get anopther shop to install is the superlift 4" lift kit. The body lifit is not made for an explorer and requires a little modification. You could get the shackles installed but your looking at about an 1" once it settles and 31s max without triming some sheet metal.

thanks you guys know your crap

ok i think this is what im gonna do ... im gonna get a PA #853 3" body lift and do a TT twist and warrorir shackles in the rear.... since tax is right and this is my everday drive ...actually my only drive would i be able to fit 33's on that with a 5'' lift total.... im also gonna check to see if my 95 was one of the lucky ones to have the TT and INS stuff bolted on instead of welded... if it was welded ill probably leave it alone... but if it was bolted im probably gonna shop aound for a 2 or 3 " suspension lift... then again i might just go with a superlift lift kit and be done with it ... ill keep ya informed and when i get it done ill post some pics... thanks guys

if u want a 2" suspension lift then the torsion twist is it. just do that... its free besides an alignment. unless u have to buy longer bolts but thats no biggie. for the rear i really think you'll have to do both the add-a-leaf and the shackles. the ass end sags on these trucks and the shackles will probably only put it back to stock height. the add-a-leaves will bring it up to the height of the torsion twist (2") the only suspension lifts for your truck are 4" superlift/trailmaster and 5.5" rcd. you should be paying around $400-$500 labor for a body lift. atleast thats what they charge around here. then add in the custom bumper brackets... 5" will let u fit 33's with minor trimming but they will fit.

The superlift kit is the only explorer kit out there besides the RCD I guess. There is no 2 or 3" kit. They claim 96 - 99 or whatever but it installs fine on a 95. Their torsion bar brackets boolt right over top of the stock ones.

alright

ok guys.... fortunately for me my cousin is big in body works stuff and customizing and he gave me some info and some people to see ... well i did that today... and this is what im gonna do ... get a 3'' body lift and HIRIDID... you were correct depending on the time labor will cost me about 400-600 to get it installed... then im probably gonna do a TT ill gonna do an AAL and the warrior shackles even though that from looking at it and getting a proffessional opinion my explorer doesnt sag in the rear it actually is higher in the rear than it is in the front..... so this should be kinda cool... i printed some of the stuff i found on some of the threads to the shop about using PA 835 ranger body lift kit so that can be used and what not .... and about maybe exchaning my current torrsion bars for new upgraded ones ( i read about some super grade torrsion bars on here somewhere but cant find it )... this shop is even gonna give me a military discount too... lol woohoo... and i checked their shop out from what they got sittin there to their competion trophies in the shop they know their stuff........ so this is where i sit ... however im kind indecisive i wanna make the right decision so who knows im still thinking about the superlift 4"........ill keep ya posted

the PA835 is a 2'', right?

sorry brother i meant the 853 and thats a 3''

Alright guys

ok i took some initiative today and decided to start checking out my X and checked out my suspensions and all sorts of stuff off of the diagrams. Well i got out my tape meassure and took my measurements on both the front and back of the wheel well....unlike the most explorers mine didnt sag in the rear... it was actually higher in the rear...... and i was suprised that all four measurements were at all but 12'' ... so i decided to take the advice of you guys on here jacked up the Kamell Jokky (thats what i named it thought it was appropriate.. lol..) ... and took to the TT myself... to my suprise the bolts moved a little slow but not too bad.... after i was done ... i checked the measurements and i got all but 3'' out of all of them so it kinda sags in the back now... but ive decided that when my reenlistment bonus comes in im gonna put a 4" superlift lift kit in and a 3'' PA 853 body lift ... ok my question for the day ... tires.. this is my everyday vehicle so they have to be all terrain.. im thinking 34 X 10.5 ... whats your opinions ..what kinda tires do you guys think i should get?
