I'm a long-time user of the Corvette Forum, with a lightly modified 2002 C5 coupe - aftermarket headers and heads, a blower-cammed, supercharged 600rwhp, RPM Level 6 auto tranny, coil-over suspension, a completely redone, baseball-brown leather interior with a 900 watt amp, sub-woofers and custom speakers. Other than those changes, the car is bone stock. Did all of the above based on consultation with the Corvette Forum, and did the entire interior install myself. The car has 28,000 miles on the clock, so it is definitely not a daily driver.

Suffice it to say that contributions by other Corvette Forum members made my work easy to do, and allowed me to avoid the arrows that come with being a pioneer. So I expect similar assistance on the Explorer Forum.

I have owned a number of new Fords, starting with a 1996 Mustang GT (bought for my daughter), a 2001 Mustang (to replace the one my daughter wrecked), four Explorers (one for each of my sons and another two for myself, including the 2015 Limited I recently purchased) , a Fusion Sport and an Expedition.

I have never had a problem with any of my Ford vehicles; of course I am a fanatic on preventive maintenance, and subscribe to the theory that the auto maker's recommended service intervals are intended solely to keep the vehicle running until the basic warranty expires. So my service intervals, particularly oil changes, radiator flushes and tranny fluid changes, are more frequent than Ford recommends. And I use a full synthetic oil (Mobil 1) rather than Ford's semi-synthetic recommended oil.

I considered buying a 2015 Explorer Sport but shied away because, in the very hot summer Texas sun, I was concerned whether the twin-turbo set-up would, over time, become problematic. (My experience with BMWs suggests turbocharged engines run hot anyway, and adding 115 degree Tollroad summertime temperatures to that equation, in my judgment, simply multiplied the risks of an overheated engine.) Sure I'd like the extra horsepower and torque but then, whenever I feel the urge to drive a powerful vehicle I just jump in the Corvette.

Anyway, I traded a 2013 Edge Limited for the 2015 Explorer, and most of the technology in those two vehicles is similar if not identical. So the learning curve on the Explorer was very short. In my experience the New England consumer periodical-fueled complaints about Ford's technology is unfounded. It's no more complex or difficult to master than any other automaker's technology. So I walk into the ownership of this 2015 Explorer with high expectations for a happy experience.

Well...that's enough background. Now I look forward to getting acquainted with this Forum's topics and discussions, and suspect I will get many good ideas for making the Explorer MY EXPLORER.
