Wow, indeed its a bit of contradiction....oh well, thanks for that link..it is really odd, well anyway, I wont do the software upgrade, if it breaks its under warranty anyway, I trade in before warranty expires, I just need to be wary of the car being firmly in gear when in Park...have great day

Since it is a Safety Recall, the dealer may be obligated to do the update anyway.

I can see them doing the recall even if there’s been no reports of injuries. I’ve worked as a tech on new cars in the past, and all it takes to initiate a recall is reports of something that has some potential of causing injury or damage. In a way, this issue is kind of ironic because people that take drivers education are taught to engage the parking brake even on an automatic transmission, for this exact possible reason. But I’m also guilty of not using the parking brake unless on a hill

I should, but never do use the parking brake. So many of my past cars, either they didn't work, or worse, locked up! I just tilt the wheels in case it rolls. (Hasn't so far....)

Those missing the point about us being concerned about disengaging a parking brake by tapping, mashing or manually are missing the MAIN reason of the absurdity of this, which is that Ford should be replacing all of the defective parts, PERIOD... not just selectively allowing Interceptors only to get it, because, well, they accelerate a lot more. It sounds like quite the compelling argument, but it is a step into unchartered waters when known defective parts are not replaced and they dicker with your software to save money. I do not speak for anyone but myself and personally I am refusing the software update and currently waiting for approval to get the part replaced in lieu of the band aid.

Having read what happens when the defective parts fail, I'd think Ford would be more concerned about that, happening when you're driving! Hardware, not software - wonder how long it will take?

I’ve owned only one vehicle that I always used the parking brake on, and that was my mustang, because it was a manual transmission, and I put so much work and money into that thing I wasn’t going to let it get hurt

I would think it's a feature like the auto locks? But I don't know nothing 'bout these new ones, used to own a 2nd gen. Honestly you can access vehicle settings from the screen right? Maybe in there, or some hidden button??

No hidden button and no settings for this. It is considered a safety upgrade and I believe it is now a standard feature.
