'98 XLT SOHC V6 with 60,000 miles.

I won't mention all of the recalls.

Under Warrenty:
1. New CD Changer in the armrest after the factory one broke.

Out of Warrenty:
1. New pinion seal in the rear diff. and new fluid. $170 at the dealer.
2. Tried to fix drivers door after it got blown open one day when I parked it on a hill. It's never been the same and makes a lot of wind noise. Still doesn't close right. They said I'd need new hinges which would be major $$$$. I think I'll deal with it for a while
3. Everything else has been maintenance issues.

I still haven't put new brakes shoes on but I've noticed some pulsing lately when I brake. I'm going to guess new rotors when I do the brakes.

It doesn't sound like a lot of stuff but has been a lot more than my Honda Accord. Overall I'm satisfied with the truck up to now. Of course now I'm coming into the years of problems and I hope that by maintaining the truck well it will last a long time.

Oh, look, a bandwagon...

1993 XLT 4-door 4x4
84,000 miles

issues other than regular maintenence and my destructive tendencies:

Power-Steering pump, 4 times within 3 or 4 weeks. long story.
...
...
...

I haven't really had any trouble with my truck. I bent my passenger-side I-beam and radius arms once though. (even longer story, don't ask) Custom battle scars. (body damage, lol) Texas pinstriping. I think that about covers it.

'95 XLT 4X4
55K

I bought my X the first of July with and 11 days later it was in the shop with tranny problems. Got it back 10 days later and the O/D off light was blinkin again.
They told me they would take care of it if I take it in.
Other than that no problems in the last month and a half.

be assured you have a good vehicle. you take of it, it will take care of you.

My 94 XLT has 134,000 miles on it. I have owned it for 2 years. The work I have done:

-ball joints
-02 sensors
-front wheel bearings
-gear box
-crankshaft sensor
-major tune up
-radius arm
-new Monroe Reflex shocks
-breaks all the way around

Not bad for the abuse it gets.

What are the odds of someone going thru all these threads and summarizing the bad parts that are common in the explorers:

Example: 30 bad balljoints 100 trannies and so on and so on.

Just new here. I bought my wife a 91 XL this weekend so I thought I would surf the net a bit and see what I could find. Found one! Searching through the site I found the post about the high milers. We purchased a red 91 4 dr. 4.0 liter with manual trans. I was quite happy to see that for the most part owners are happy with the trucks. Ours has 208,000 Kilometers (from Canada eh) and I am to lazy to convert to english.

-Plugs & wires (several times partially due to experimentation....)
