High RPMs between shifts.

[Ranger Rookie]

98 Ranger 3.0L, Manual Transmission.
Every time I shift between gears the rpm Stay high where I last left the throttle around 3000 Rpm. In order to get the R's down I have to ride the brake in higher gear or let out the clutch with brakes on to get it down to reasonable R's. Anyone know?

...Have you had your codes checked???...This would give you a place to start...Even if you don't have a CEL, you will have a stored code...
