1997 Eddie Bauer V8 AWD -- bought in 2005 with 102,000 miles on it for $3,800. Now has 162,000 miles on it.

Love this truck!! Only things replaced have been alternator (Oct. 07) and radiator (Dec. 08). Tranny is original and runs great, no slipping (knock on wood). Replaced tranny fluid right after I bought it and just recently did so again. Other fixes include blend door actuator, replacement of broken cruise control switch, re-soldering lamp out module (2x), upgrading stock 6.5 inch subwoofer to an 8 inch Rockford-Fosgate model, and replacing old non-functioning neon high-mount brake light with LED array. :exp:

99 SOHC - 225k

Original engine and tranny.

Had to fix:
ABS sensor
MAF sensor
Master cylinder
Both front hubs + calipers

Everything else is stock beside the obvious battery, brakes, exhaust, ect.

Father owned it before myself so I know everything that has been repaired.
Vechicle has done some light towing but mostly highway miles. I know im on borrowed time with the tranny, the thing never skips a beat.

My 96 is getting ready to roll over to 200,000 in the next couple of weeks and so far everything I have been replacing has been original.

The wifes 01 Sport with a 4.0L in it just hit 81k tonight while on test drive after replacing the O2 sensor after the cats and the Oil Pressure Switch. It had 30k on it when we bought it 5.5 yrs ago as a certified pre owned.
I have replaced:
Battery
Brakes Rotors and Pads all the way around
Rear dif fluid and all other fluids sucking down the Barney Juice(Royal Purple)
Oil Pressure Switch
All 3 O2 sensors
and so far that is all.
Except adding a HHO set up to it.

It is paid for so hopefully this is all the needs replaced for awhile.

Might be a winner...

My '95 XLT got the original tranny rebuilt at 236K. Engine is still untouched internally, though I think the cam sync shaft is squealing and will get done...

The tranny actually needed an EPC solenoid, but got a full rebuild, hard and soft parts, and the shop in Mesa AZ knew what they were doing. Problems started as 2-3 shift flare and got worse over a long period of time. I almost junked her....

Oh, it may not qualify. New steering rack at 176K or so. Is that the disqualifier?

I misspoke in the high-mileage thread, she just turned 280K the other week.

98 5.0 XLT with 190,000 orgi tranny and motor and altenator. and shes still running strong.

1998 XLT 4.0 SOHC with 226K miles. I bought it used at 100K. Several cross country trips and one run to Mexico City. Some towing. Not always on pavement, but never off road. The previous owner had lots of problems with the transfer case, but it's been fine for me.

All original (yeah, I'm living on borrowed time on the tranny), except the following:

Repairs:
Driver's side seat latch
Driver's side door handle
Radio display fade
Blend door actuator (thankfully not the door itself)
Radio antenna (nylon drive belt fatigued)
Driver's side puddle light (broken wire)
Hood and rear window gas struts
Alternator
Belt tensioner
Starter (top mounting bolt had just vibrated loose)

And maintenance:
Radiator hoses and thermostat last week
Tires
Batteries
Fluids
Filters
Transmission filter
Brake pads
Rotors resurfaced once

Other:
Sway bar bushings squeak. Eventually I'll replace them but for now I hit 'em with WD40 about quarterly to keep things quiet.
Rear wiper motor works fine, but the arm springs are weak so the wiper doesn't wipe much.

I'm new to auto work, yet I've done all the repairs and maintenance myself thanks to the outstanding how-to articles on this forum.

Seeing how far I can make it go has become a hobby.

im sure many people would call BS on me for this, but i swear to it. My dads companys explorer went for 290,x.. on the original tranny! i dont know about anything else as i was around 9-10 years old. the story change when one of my 16 yr old brothers got it as his car, and about 5 months after he 'hit a curb' blowing out both tires trashing the rims and the tranny wouldnt shift at that point. i cant say anything about what other kind or repairs was done to the engine or anything else. the interior was pretty beat up tho.

2000 Limited
248,000kms
original tranny and engine
Timing chain and camshaft guides just done

i had a 1996 limited with 307,000kms on the original tranny and it started to go so i got rid of it

97 sport 2 door OHV 5R55E 169,000 and it runs good a little weak but could be the tranny, EVERY THING was original when i got it even the plugs! so far just the usual stuff , front end needs to be rebuilt and i have to do the intake gaskets, the tranny seems like its holding for now just a few minor shifting issues. i got it with 155,000 on the clock.

how about this one..
i just got rid of my 91 accord and got my 99 eddie bauer explorer a month ago today. i fell in love with it instantly but about a week later i got the infamous transfer case buzz (which is how i found this great site) so two weeks later and 2200$$ later that was fixed. on sunday me and some friends went to ocean city for the day and since i got my truck back a week before it thought it would be all good, but the belt snapped over the bay bridge, and of course with more research from this site, i realized my tensioner had gone bad, while that was at the shop today i told them to look at the transmission since the o/d light still occasionally blinked. they opened it to find the ORIGINAL trans fluid, filter, screens, gasket, you name it, it was still stock, the transmission had never even been opened before! this truck has had the same trans fluid and filter for over 10 yrs, 137795 miles. hard to believe, i figured i needed a new tranny the way that light never shut off.

99 Mountaineer 5.0 AWD 176,000 on original engine, tranny and drivetrain.

The only major headache was the front "DANA" drive shaft @170,000

It's like the old saying "It runs like a Timex watch"
It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'

Rick

Is that a 5R55E (V6 tranny) or a V8 tranny?

Bought our '98 XLT 4WD new in December '97 and we've put 151,989 miles on it since then. The engine and transmission are original - 7500 mile oil changes, 30,000 mile transmission, coolant, and brake fluid flushes. I've replaced the lower control arm and sway bar bushings, shocks, and some recalls, but mostly it's just maintenance items. Even the Michellins Ford bought for me in the Great Firestone Swap passed inspection with over 90,000 miles on them.

Maybe it's just that we expect our trucks to go the distance and we treat them like they will. If you expect it will only go a 100,000, then you tend to give up on the maintenance and it dies sooner and we call the car crap.

i got a 1997 5.0 and it is all is origenal exsepet the heater core, wires and plugs with 145,000 miles on it

1995 Explorer Sport, 200,000 miles. As far as engine and trans, all original, changed the idler pulley, alternator (thought it was the cause of a chirping noise), fuel pump last week and had the switch for the overdrive light on the dash replaced under warranty when it was new. Nothing but oil and filter changes.

my uncle gave me his 96 sport he bought brand new. im the 2nd owner. very well taken care of. right now it sits at 215k. motor hasnt been touched internally, transmission is stock, always serviced at ford. i took off the stock wheels and threw on some 15x7 cragar soft 8s and a set of federal couragia mt, 20% tint, my uncle had a brush gaurd custom made, mounted a 5ft firestik on the driverside corner of the rear bumper, shorty radio antenna, threw in a pioneer cd player, replaced the shocks all around, just did a WHOLE brake job, and just had all th plugs replaced with motorcraft, and bosch wires, new fuel filter, new driverside cv joint:rolleyes:

Highest mileage

I'm just coming up on my 96 XLT to 200,000 miles with all original equipment except for tires, few parts here and there, a radiator due to grasshoppers, fanbelt and A/C compressor. Anybody know what the record is for an Explorer?
