I put a add up on craigs list looking to buy a hitch for my 98XLT. A guy sent me a email saying that I could have his off his truck for $35 or the entire truck for $250. It is a 91 with a 5 speed. He said the truck runs great drives great and the 4WD works great. The only thing is is when you take off you have to put it down in "2" and manually shift the automatic tranny. He said that he has changed the fluids and filter in the trans however it still does it. I am thinking about picking it up just to have a truck to beat around in. I guess that my main question is will the hitch go on my 98 even though it is off a 91?

The rear hitches should swap from the 91+ years, but do you want to work with that rust? For just the hitch that's not bad, if you plan to clean it up. A new hitch can be had for as little as $100 from what I've read. I paid about $50 for powder coating mine, after I spent a lot of time on the rust, not as bad as that one.

The whole truck price is not bad at all, if you need the truck. It will likely need a new A4LD soon, they go out like that often.

As for the hitch...it will be going on my 98. I am going to have it sandblasted and powdered. I think that it will look good. We are also going to be buying and receiving the truck this Wed. We took a ride in it and was instantly sold. Runs like a top. When we get it I will post a few pictures.

Very good. To keep the rust at bay, you might consider a little money and time spent with Eastwood's rust products. I recommend the Rust Dissolver, which is the first thing you would need, and it's liquid like water that you can spray. Regards,

Well honestly for trying to save it once we seen it in person I do not think that we are going to try..I think that we are just going to have it for a beater and trail ride it and just all and all have a good time with it. As for the hitch...well that is coming with me and going to be put on my truck.

I was hinting that the basic first step spray could help stave off death for a while. Since it's a spray like water you can apply it without any trouble, just crawl around and hit it like spraying for wasps. The protecting and sealing products all take tons and tons of time, labor, taping, cleanup etc. I have never just sprayed the Rust Dissolver on and nothing else, but it does seep up into seams and cracks to get to the rust deep inside. That may be most of what you could need.

I'm about to remove my front bumper and grille from my 98, I know that it has rust in the radiator support. Killing the rust is extremely hard, but sealing it up is the most time consuming part, assuming you can kill the rust throughout the steel. I don't mind that first step of the spray, it does the work assuming the rust is accessible.

I'm not pushing you Dan, you have just reminded me that I need to get on with my truck also. That's a good deal, enjoy it.
