anybody installed homelink in their console?

I just saw one on ebay, looks like the thing will fit right where my stupid garage door holder thing door could be replaced with a homelink panel. And I think I'm gonna go for it..

I bought one off ebay for my F-150 and installed it in the overhead console. The one I bought was for a Pontiac (I actually bought a set of Pontiac visors with it installed), but they are all the same functionally.

well for future reference, I bought an overhead console with the homelink, and actually the console is the exact same thing, only the door is different between the garage opener holder thingy, and the homelink panel. The wiring harness plug was even already there on my truck.
So now I have 100% factory look homelink in my 02, and I've freed up a garage remote for one of my other cars.

I would love to do this, how much did you pay to have it purchased, how hard to instal, and do you have any pictures? It sounds real easy?!

Thanks!

it's about as easy as can be.

I found one off ebay for 50 bucks, which was high but the dealer couldn't get me a price for just the homelink panel, which swings down the exact same way the garage holder thing does.

When you open the garage door thing, there is one screw that holds the console in. you remove it, then pull straight down on the console at the front edge, it will pop loose. Unplug the dome light, and hopefully the connector that will hook up to the homelink (not sure all explorers will have this, mine is a fairly well loaded XLT and the harness was already there) Also if the Ex has the rear air/seat option, there will be more stuff to disconnect due to the rear air controls.

Here's the pic of what I bought:

The new panel hinge poped right into my existing console, and plugged right in. Even taking my time, this was a 10 minute job.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask me.

do you have another picture of what you nought? For some reason I cannot see it. Thanks

What you have to do is find a console that has the homelink in it. sounds hard, but what your looking for is one that has three little black buttons. in a tan (or whatever color your interior is) panel. It will be sitting exactly where your garage opener holder is.

If your X has a moonroof, you have to get the homelink that has the moonroof switch with it, so they aren't exactly universal. But I'd recomend just searching ebay often, what you need will likely pop up.

That pic has the Homelink panel, the same one I installed in my overhead console.

Just got mine from Ebay today. It was from an 02 Mountaineer and they sent the entire upper console. Not that I needed it but I really wanted the factory fit. Only problem is that the colors of gray are a little off. I think I'll just get some VHT plastic paint and paint it black since some of the other parts in the console are black, also...Programmed it and it works. Only question is will it take rolling codes...?

I believe so, the homelink thing is compatible with almost all openers. The programing instructions are included in all owners manuals, which has instructions that include rolling code remotes.

Hope your as happy as I am with mine.
