- '91 4.0L XLT 5spd.
I have seen another guy who made a similar box with the same idea. I have a '91 XLT and thought this was a fun, easy project to try out myself.
I started out by maping out the area that I have and took some rough measurements, enough to come up with a cardboard template that I can cut and bend to see how it will fit.
After I perfected several templates I traced out onto a thin almn. sheet and made my major cuts on a sheer and the rest with a nibbler. Filed the edges and bent in the right spots.
After I had it all bent and filed smooth I plugged it into the right spot and made the rest of the little tweaks. I bent a few tabs to bolt it on so it isnt just flopping around.
For a cheap way, that wrks just as good, I took a pool noodle(floaty toy) and sliced it down the middle to fit over the top edge. and Cut it to the right length. To make sure that I didnt cut any wires and hoses, I bought some door trim and placed that around every other edge. This was cheap, and only took about two hours to do.
