Just did it using the directions here in tis thread. Thanks a lot for posting! I am a computer software guy so when I do something to the autos myself instead of a shop or someone else I get super happy.

Thanks for the write-up, super easy with these instructions!

Just a note, on my 1996 Exp the little ball joints the struts snap on are of different sizes. The Monroe struts I ordered from RockAuto.com went on upside down from the original struts. The original struts had the thin stem hooked up to the upper joint and the body of the strut attached to the bottom joint, as shown in the pictures above. The replacement went on the other way around. And, yes!, the original ones lasted me 14 years!

Impressive. My truck was about 6 years old when I bought it and the struts were super weak. Not sure if they were original or not. A while later, the hood slammed shut trapping 4 fingers on my left hand. I eventually scored the best hood strut option for my truck. A little more involved putting them on than OEM (thanks Jonny!).

Redline struts are da bomb. :)

StrongArm Hood Lift Support

Thanks for the how to. It made the replacement as easy as pie. I ordered the StrongArm supports from Amazon for $13.76 each with Free Shipping and a promotion.
